Disconnecting to Reconnect: Fostering Focus in Our Classrooms
As we prepare for the upcoming school year, our focus is on creating a warm, supportive, and engaging space where our students can truly thrive. To help them stay present, our district is implementing a "bell-to-bell" policy regarding personal internet-enabled devices, including cell phones, smartwatches, and tablets.
Starting this year, we ask that all personal devices remain turned off and stored away during the school day. Our goal is to protect valuable learning time and encourage students to interact face-to-face, helping them build stronger peer connections and focus on their academic growth. Research consistently shows that limiting screen-based distractions during school hours helps lower student anxiety and creates a much more focused, joyful environment.
We fully support the needs of our individual learners, and exceptions will always be honored for documented medical monitoring (such as blood glucose tracking), translation services, or accommodations in IEP and 504 plans. If you ever need to reach your child during the day, please call our main office directly, and our staff will ensure they receive your message.
Thank you for your partnership and support in helping us build a more connected and distraction-free school community!
Important Reminder: Timely Student Pick-Up and Bus Safety Policies
As we work together to ensure a safe, organized, and smooth school year, we would like to remind everyone of our school’s vital policies regarding student dismissal and the necessity of timely pick-ups.
Bus Stop Attendance (Grades PreK-2): For the safety of our youngest learners, a parent, guardian, or designated adult must be at the bus stop to receive any student in Grade 2 or younger. If an adult is not present, the bus driver is required to return the child to school.
On-Time Parent Pick-Up: For students scheduled for parent pick-up, families must collect their children promptly at our standard dismissal time.
Childcare Fees: For Late Pick-Ups: We understand that emergencies and unexpected delays can happen. However, in repeated instances where a child must be brought back to school by the bus, or if a parent is repeatedly late (15 minutes past dismissal) for pick-up, students will be placed in our on-site childcare program. Parents will be responsible for retrieving their child and will be charged the walk-in childcare rate of $75.00. Please note that childcare hours end promptly at 6:00 p.m..
Please ensure you have updated all contact information within Genesis. Additionally, please add or update any contacts authorized to pick up your child in an emergency.
On-time dismissal ensures that our students remain safe and our staff can focus on their after-school responsibilities. Thank you so much for your partnership and cooperation in keeping our Panthers safe and secure!
Showing Up Together: Why Attendance Matters
At Switlik, one of our core goals is to help our students "Attend and be present every day."
Parents and guardians are our essential partners in this mission, sharing the responsibility of ensuring students attend school consistently
Why is regular attendance so vital?
Every Day is a Learning Opportunity: A missed school day is a lost opportunity to learn. Studies show that consistent attendance directly supports higher academic achievement, while chronic absence can lead to significant performance gaps.
The Power of Consistency: Missing just two days a month (10% of the school year) qualifies as chronic absenteeism. Even in the early grades, frequent absences are linked to academic challenges down the road.
Protecting Progress: Unexcused absences count toward truancy and can ultimately impact course credit, promotion, and graduation.
We appreciate everything you do to support your child's education. Let's work together to make sure our students show up to learn and make every school day count!
Chromebook Rollout This Fall
This October, students in grades 3 and 4 will receive new district-issued HP Fortis Flip G11 Chromebooks. Students will be scheduled to turn in their old devices along with their chargers to receive their new ones. While these new Chromebooks are built to be durable, we highly recommend using a protective case to help prevent damage and avoid repair costs.
Students in grades 1 and 2 will also turn in their current devices. Rather than taking Chromebooks home, these students will be assigned a specific device that stays at school and is stored daily in classroom charging carts. Students remain responsible for taking care of their assigned device and using it safely and appropriately.
Thank you for your support as we roll out our technology updates to help our students succeed. If you have any questions about the exchange process or device expectations, please don't hesitate to reach out
