Dear Newport Parents, Families, and Staff:

It’s official! Welcome back to Newport Public Schools for the 2022-2023 school year!

There’s just something wonderful about greeting students on the first day of school, which I had the pleasure of doing this morning at all three of our schools. Seeing students eager to learn and interacting with their parents, friends, teachers, and staff is what education is all about.

Working together and with our One Newport community partners, we’re going to have a great school year filled with learning, exploration, and growth.

¡Es oficial! ¡Bienvenido de nuevo a las Escuelas Públicas de Newport para el año escolar 2022-2023!

Hay algo maravilloso en saludar a los estudiantes el primer día de clases, lo cual tuve el placer de hacer esta mañana en nuestras tres escuelas. Ver a los estudiantes ansiosos por aprender e interactuar con sus padres, amigos, maestros y personal es de lo que se trata la educación.

Trabajando juntos y con nuestros socios comunitarios de One Newport, vamos a tener un gran año escolar lleno de aprendizaje, exploración y crecimiento.

We had a spectacular day last Wednesday to cut the ribbon on our Claiborne Pell Elementary School expansion and new welcome center! Thank you to all of the students, parents, teachers, community partners, and elected leaders who joined us. The ceremony was featured in RIDE - Back2School RI

¡Tuvimos un día espectacular el miércoles pasado para cortar la cinta en nuestra expansión de la Escuela Primaria Claiborne Pell y el nuevo centro de bienvenida! Gracias a todos los estudiantes, padres, maestros, socios comunitarios y líderes electos que se unieron a nosotros. La ceremonia se presentó en RIDE - Back2School RI

Last Thursday I had the opportunity to welcome our dedicated teachers back for the 2022-2023 school year with a district-wide day of professional development. We’re giving our teachers the latest tools and learning best practices they need to educate our students.

El jueves pasado tuve la oportunidad de dar la bienvenida a nuestros maestros dedicados para el año escolar 2022-2023 con un día de desarrollo profesional en todo el distrito. Estamos brindando a nuestros maestros las últimas herramientas y aprendiendo las mejores prácticas que necesitan para educar a nuestros estudiantes.

Here's the 2022-2023 school bus schedule from our transportation provider Ocean State Transit.

Each of our schools will be holding open houses and town hall meetings to start the school year. These are great opportunities to get to know your school, teachers, and principals.

Open House Dates:

• Rogers/NACTC - September 28th - 5:30-7:00 PM

• Thompson - September 29 - 5:30 – 7:00

• Pell - September 19 - 5 - 6:30 (Grades PK-1), September 20 - 5 - 6:30 (Grades 2-4)

School Town Hall Meetings Dates:

• Rogers - September 12 at RHS 5:30 to 7 PM - September 14 at BGC North End 5:30 to 7:00 PM - September 15 at MLK Center - 5:30 to 7:00 PM

• Thompson - September 15 - 6:30 - 7:30 at TMS

• Pell - September 14 at Pell - 5:00- 6:00 PM

Cada una de nuestras escuelas llevará a cabo jornadas de puertas abiertas y reuniones públicas para comenzar el año escolar. Estas son excelentes oportunidades para conocer su escuela, maestros y directores.

Free/Reduced meal eligibility is based on applications that are returned. Applications will be distributed through your child’s school. We would appreciate ALL applications being returned even if your family is not eligible. The percentage of returned applications generates additional funding for Newport Public Schools.

Our Health and Wellness Committee has been focusing on ways to strengthen our social emotional learning curriculum (SEL). Mental and physical health are important to everyone. It would be a great help if you could take 3-5 minutes to fill out this survey.
