Week 2: Be SAFE

What Does "Safe" Look Like?

At Hooker Oak, being safe means more than simply avoiding accidents. We explicitly teach students what safety looks like in different settings around campus.

For example, students learn to:

  • Keep hands, feet, and objects to themselves.

  • Walk rather than run in areas where walking is expected.

  • Use equipment appropriately.

  • Watch out for others when playing.

  • Stop and listen when an adult gives a safety direction.

Our PBIS team teaches these expectations in the specific places where students need them—classrooms, hallways, the cafeteria, playground, bathrooms, and other common areas.

Try it at home: When you are in the car, at a store, at the park, or in your neighborhood, ask:

"What would being SAFE look like here?"

This helps your child learn that being safe is a skill they can apply in many different situations.
