SMP Sneak Peek October 19-23

Principal's Message
Happy Friday! It has been such a delight watching our students play, learn, and fill our school with so much energy and joy every day.
As we look ahead to next week, please keep in mind that the mornings and outdoor recesses are getting much cooler. Sending your child to school with a warm coat, hat, and gloves will help ensure they stay comfortable while playing outside with their friends.
We are also looking forward to our Grade 5 Rosary celebration next week at 2:00 PM. Parents and families are warmly invited to join us for this beautiful afternoon gathering.
Thank you for your ongoing support, and I hope you all have a wonderful week ahead!
Mrs. Pikkert

School Information
Gr. 5 Rosary Celebration
Our Grade 5 students will receive their very own rosaries, blessed by Father Andrew, and learn how to use them to pray. To celebrate, the class will participate in a living rosary where each student represents a bead along the chain to lead our school community in prayer.
For those new to the tradition, Catholics pray the Hail Mary as a way to ask Mary, the mother of Jesus, to pray with us and for us to God. She is deeply loved and very special to God, and having her prayers with us is a wonderful comfort!
Parents and families are warmly invited to join us for this special gathering
World Catholic Education Day
World Catholic Education Day is a special time for us to celebrate the unique gift of Catholic schools and the strong faith community we share. On this day, students and staff wear blue as a symbol of unity, peace, and our devotion to Mary, who is often represented by the color blue in our faith tradition. We look forward to seeing our hallways filled with blue as we mark this meaningful occasion together!

Student Cell Phone & Personal Device Usage
To support focused learning, mental health, and positive social interactions, students must keep personal mobile devices (cell phones, smartwatches, connected fitness trackers, and tablets) turned off or on silent and stored out of view (in lockers or backpacks) during all instructional time.
Exceptions
In accordance with Alberta Education directives and RDCRS Administrative Procedure 114, exceptions during instructional time are permitted only for:
Medical & Health Needs: Pre-approved monitoring or medical management (e.g., diabetes management).
Documented Learning Needs: Explicit accommodations specified in a student’s Individualized Program Plan (IPP).
Educational Purposes: Approved, specific instructional activities under teacher direction.
Expectations & Privacy
Parent Communication: To avoid class disruptions, parents are asked not to contact students directly on personal devices during instructional time. Urgent messages or emergencies must be directed to the main school office.
Privacy: Personal devices are strictly prohibited in washrooms, change rooms, and designated private areas.
Confiscation: Misused devices will be secured in the main office and returned to parents.
