Prayer

May the strength of God pilot us,

may the wisdom of God instruct us.

May the hand of God protect us,

may the word of God direct us.

May thy Salvation, O Lord,

be always ours this day and for evermore.

Amen.

This weekend we celebrate Father’s Day and recognise the important role that dads, grandads and father figures play in the lives of our children.

Tomorrow morning, we are looking forward to welcoming our QOA dads and special blokes to our Brekky with the Blokes. It is always a fantastic morning and a great opportunity for our families to come together before the school day begins.

Our wonderful P&F will also have the Father’s Day Stall in full swing, giving students the opportunity to select that perfect gift for Dad. A big thank you to our P&F volunteers for the time and effort that goes into making these special events possible for our students and families.

I hope all of our QOA dads and father figures have a wonderful Father’s Day on Sunday and get the chance to put their feet up and enjoy being spoilt!

And, of course, hopefully Freo can start the celebrations early by getting over the Hawks tonight and putting plenty of our QOA families in a good mood for the weekend! ⚓💜

Happy Father’s Day!

Jesse Yock

Principal

Front Office Update

Mrs Duncanson will be on leave for Weeks 8–10 this term. We wish Kath all the very best for her time away and look forward to welcoming her back in Term 4.

During this time, Caroline Hunnybun will be joining us three days per week to assist with covering the front office. We thank Caroline for stepping in and supporting our school community while Kath is away.

Staffing Update – Mrs McGinty

We wish to advise our school community that Mrs Mara McGinty will be taking a period of leave for the 2027 school year.

Mara is a valued member of our Early Childhood team, and we are grateful for the care, warmth and commitment she brings to our Kindy students and families.

We wish Mara all the very best for her year away and look forward to welcoming her back to Queen of Apostles in 2028.

Corridors for Carnaby’s Takes Flight at QOA

What an incredible day we had at QOA this week as our Corridors for Carnaby’s Project officially came to life!

Our Year 4–6 students had the fantastic opportunity to work alongside well-known gardener and conservation advocate Sabrina Hahn, planting Banksia menziesii and Banksia attenuata seedlings across our back oval. These native Banksias will eventually provide an important food source for the endangered Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoo and contribute to creating greater habitat and food corridors across our local area. The broader Corridors for Carnaby’s initiative aims to restore food, water and habitat for these iconic WA birds.

More importantly, our students were able to get their hands dirty and learn firsthand that they can play a meaningful role in caring for our environment. Sabrina shared her knowledge with the students throughout the day, helping them understand why the Banksias are important and how projects like this can make a genuine difference.

This is only the first stage of what we hope will be a three-year journey at QOA. We are excited to continue working with Sabrina, the City of Canning and other community partners as we further develop our school grounds to support Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoos.

A huge thank you to Sabrina and Matt for giving their time and expertise, to our staff for supporting the day, and particularly to Mr Rob for the enormous amount of preparation that went into getting the planting area ready.

We can’t wait to watch our little Banksias grow alongside our students and, hopefully, welcome plenty of hungry Carnaby’s to QOA in the years ahead! 🌱🖤🐦

Student Voice In Action

At our Term 3 Class Meetings, students across the school shared their ideas about what is working well at Queenies, what we can improve and what we could try next.

We heard lots of positive feedback about our Community Garden, lunchtime sport and tournaments, and the way students are playing together at recess and lunch.

But the most important thing about student voice is that we don’t just ask for your ideas, we act on them!

Based on your feedback, we are going to look at:

  • more lunchtime sporting tournaments and student-led activities
  • improving sporting equipment and access to our outdoor spaces
  • continuing to work on respectful behaviour, listening, lining up and transitions

  • exploring ways the Community Garden could also be used as a quiet and peaceful space.

Thank you to everyone who contributed ideas during your Class Meetings. Keep sharing your ideas with your class SRC representatives so that together we can continue to make Queenies an even better place to learn, play and belong.

Thank you!

Learning Through Inquiry

Over the past six months, our Early Learning team has been working alongside renowned educator Kath Murdoch to deepen our understanding of inquiry-based learning and explore new ways to nurture curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking in our classrooms.

Earlier this week, our teachers proudly shared their learning journey with educators from other schools, celebrating the wonderful growth they have seen in both their own practice and, most importantly, in their students. Through rich inquiry experiences, children have been encouraged to ask questions, wonder, investigate, and make meaningful connections in their learning.

A key focus of this work has also been helping children become more aware of themselves as learners. By intentionally developing important skills and dispositions, our students are beginning to see themselves as researchers, thinkers, collaborators, and self-managers, building confidence in their ability to learn, contribute, and solve problems independently.

As Kath Murdoch reminds us, “Inquiry is not so much about finding answers as it is about seeking possibilities.” This captures what we strive to foster every day: confident, curious learners who are developing the skills, dispositions, and mindset they need for lifelong learning.

We invite you to pop into our classrooms and see the rich inquiry learning in action!

Volunteers Volunteers

The Government of WA have amended the Working with Children Act last year with the changes implemented to better protect children. Catholic Education WA has mandated this process for all volunteers, including parent volunteers in schools. This includes parents who wish to volunteer at sports carnivals, in classrooms and at P&F events. Could we ask that all parents fill in the Volunteer Declaration (link) even if you have no plans at this stage to volunteer at school. Parents who wish to assist teachers on excursions will need to be on this list. Your information will be stored securely in accordance with CEWA’s Information Stewardship. We highly value parent volunteers' time and contribution to our school community and thank-you for taking the time to submit the form below.

Any grandparents that wish to volunteer in the classroom or assist in the canteen will need a Working With Children Check. Please note this does not include drop off, pick up or attendance at our Grandparents Mass and Morning Tea. Grandparents that would like to volunteer at school, please contact the school office and we can assist you in the process.
