Dear Lake Forest School Districts 67 and 115 Community,

Last evening, we welcomed members of our community to discuss the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in education at the first of a three-part series, LET’S TALK AI.

In partnership with Lake Forest College President Dr. Jill Baren, Executive Director of the Krebs Center for the Humanities and Professor of English Dr. Davis Schneiderman, Lake Forest High School Principal Dr. Erin Lenart, Lake Forest Schools Chief Technology Officer Jordan Salus, District 67 Innovation Coach Amy Lamberti, and LFHS Educational Technologist Laura Grigg, we engaged in thoughtful discussion about the transformative impact of AI on education.

The conversation was lively as we delved into curricular integration, ethical questions, and the shared responsibility among schools, communities, and families in preparing students and educators for a technologically advanced future.

Thanks to those who attended. Our next LET'S TALK AI program will take place on March 7 at Lake Forest High School at 7:00 pm. Co-hosted with Lake Forest College Professor Davis Schneiderman and Fast Company Magazine Senior Writer Ainsley Harris, we will explore AI's practical applications across the workplace. Experts will discuss how AI is revolutionizing healthcare, finance, research, data, and media, emphasizing its transformative power in shaping the future of industries.

We hope to see you there!

Time: 7:00 pm

Please join us for an evening with North Shore native Meg Kissinger in conversation with Chicago Tribune Syndicated Columnist Heidi Stevens about her book While You Were Out, An Intimate Family Portrait of Mental Illness in an Era of Silence (Macmillan, 2023).

Meg Kissinger is an award-winning American investigative journalist and a Visiting Professor at Columbia University. She is the author of “While You Were Out: An Intimate Family Portrait of Mental Illness in an Era of Silence”, published by Macmillan on Sept. 5, 2023. The book was named as one of the best memoirs of 2023 by Amazon, Audible and Goodreads and was chosen as the editors' choice by the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times. The Atlantic said it was one of six books that can “change the way you think about mental illness.” While working at The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, she and Susanne Rust were finalists for the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting for their investigation of Bisphenol A. Kissinger has also written extensively about the failures of the mental health system.

Did You Know?

LFHS Foundation grants greatly enhanced the offerings of the Art department at LFHS. One major example of this is the multiple grants that created the current Digital Arts Lab. Over the past decade, the Foundation has granted a class set of digital cameras, MacBooks, iPad Pros and Apple Pencils, software, and even new display panels and stands.

These and other grants have transformed not only the graphic design, animation, and photography courses but have also expanded the techniques explored in more traditional classes like painting and drawing. Drawing & Painting Students are currently using the iPad Pros for creating Digital Doodles to enter for the 2024 Doodle4Google Contest! The theme this year is “My wish for the next 25 years” and some students are even adding animations to their theme ideas.
