CATCHING UP WITH... Mrs. Edmonston
It's been another wonderful week at Canyon View Elementary School! It was a delight to see the 100th Day celebrations in our primary classrooms. Students used the milestone to strengthen their mathematical understanding with a variety of hands-on activities involving counting to 100! Students enjoyed the Team CV sponsored Scholastic Book Fair this week, which included a family night featuring the Coyote Choir and a read-aloud from Canyon View's Classified Employee of the Year, Ms. Alice Burge! On Thursday, students enjoyed lessons from their VAPA teachers focused on Theater Arts.
This week's newsletter is full of information from PUSD and Team CV. Be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom so you don't miss anything! the Annual District Survey is now open, and I encourage the Canyon View community to take a few minutes to share your input. English Learner Families, we hope you will also take the English Learner Family Engagement Survey. The information you share in these surveys helps to shape future priorities for Poway Unified School District.
Let's Make it a GREAT week!

Digital Citizenship - Managing Screen Time
Managing screen time is an essential part of supporting children’s well-being and academic success in today’s digital world. Technology offers incredible opportunities for learning and creativity, but maintaining a healthy balance is key. Setting clear boundaries and encouraging mindful tech habits at home helps children develop the skills they need to navigate their digital lives responsibly. By working together to create a balanced approach to technology use, we can empower students to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

CATCHING UP WITH... Picture Books for Our Families
Specially Curated Books from Ms. Alice Burge, CVES Library & Media Tech (& CVES Classified Employee of the Year!)
Celebrating the Year of the Snake! Observed by over ⅕ of the world’s population, Lunar New Year 2025 concludes with the Lantern Festival on February 12. A time for festive gatherings, Lunar New Year brings families together to share wishes for health and prosperity. Younger generations visit elders, exchanging greetings, gifts and wishes for health and prosperity in the year ahead. It's a time for celebration, reflection, joy and togetherness. Enjoy these picture books to learn more about this annual event.
Ruby’s Chinese New Year written by Vickie Lee, illustrated by Joey Chou
Ruby has a special card to give to her grandmother to honor Chinese New Year. But who will help her get to grandmother’s house to deliver it? Will it be clever Rat, strong Ox, or cautious Rabbit? Ruby meets each of the twelve zodiac animals on her journey. This vibrant picture book explores the legend of the Lunar New Year, with a focus on the animals of the Chinese zodiac.
Sam and the Lucky Money written by Karen Chinn, illustrated by Cornelius Van Wright, and Ying-Hwa Hu
Sam can hardly wait to go shopping! It's Chinese New Year's day and his grandparents have given him the traditional gift of lucky money-red envelopes called leisees (lay-sees). This year Sam is finally old enough to spend it any way he chooses. Best of all, he gets to spend his lucky money in his favorite place - Chinatown! But when Sam realizes that his grandparents' gift is not enough to get the things he wants, his excitement turns to disappointment. Even though his mother reminds him that he should appreciate the gift, Sam is not convinced - until a surprise encounter with a stranger.
CATCHING UP WITH... Parking Lot Safety Reminders
IMPORTANT NOTICE: THE GREEN CONE ZONE IS FOR SPECIAL DAY CLASS FAMILIES ONLY
Additional Parking Lot Reminders
- Attention TK/K Families: You are not required to park and walk students to the gate for drop-off. Use our drive-through drop-off instead. We have supervision from the curb to the blacktop from 8:20 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Please continue to park and pick-up from the gate at dismissal.
- Attention Grade 1-5 Families: Do not park in the lot for drop-off or pick-up. Instead, use the supervised drive-through pick-up curb west of the office. This allows sufficient parking for our staff, and TK/Kindergarten families.
- Curbside Drop-off/Pick-Up: Use our designated drop-off/pick-up area to the west of the office only. Do not ask your child to meet you anywhere else in the lot. While this might seem faster for you, it slows down our system for everyone and creates a safety hazard.
