3/24 Lions Pride ~ Orgullo de Leon

Hola familias Leones,

¡Bueno, aquí estamos al comienzo de nuestras vacaciones de primavera! Sé que todos hemos estado esperando este descanso y les deseo a todos una semana agradable y tranquila por delante. Hemos tenido una gran semana aquí en James John y, sin duda, lamás grande Lo más destacado fue la visita de ayer de los bailarines de Jefferson High School. Este grupo de baile fue originalmente tenía previsto visitar a James John para nuestra celebración del Mes de la Historia Negra, pero su actuación se canceló debido al día de nieve. Nos alegramos de su actuación podría ser reprogramado para esta semana y su espectáculo valió la pena la espera. Nuestros estudiantes y personal quedaron asombrados por su gran talento y habilidad. Hoy terminamos la semana honrando a nuestros Estudiantes del Mes por el gran esfuerzo que pusieron este mes. Nuestro tema para abril será resolver problemas y queremos darle la bienvenida de nuevo todos ustedes regresarán a la escuela el lunes 3 de abril. Nuevamente, ¡espero que todos tengan un maravilloso descanso!

Hello Lions Families,

Well, here we are at the start of our spring break! I know that we have all been looking forward to this break and I wish you all an enjoyable and restful week ahead. We have had a great week here at James John and undoubtedly the biggest highlight was the visit yesterday from the Jefferson High School dancers. This dance group was originally scheduled to visit James John for our Black History Month Celebration, but their performance was canceled due to the snow day. We were glad their performance could be rescheduled for this week and their show was worth the wait. Our students and staff were amazed by their great talent and skill. Today we finished off the week by honoring our Students of the Month for the great effort they put in this month. Our theme for April will be problem solving and we are looking forward to welcoming you all back to school on Monday, April 3. Again, I hope you all have a wonderful break!

James John is hosting our first Career Day on April 21st and we need your help!

Career Day is an opportunity for students to be inspired by their parents and community members. It is also a great way for our AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Team to help show students the many educational and career paths they can choose in their future. It is meant to help encourage children to expand their horizons and explore new learning avenues.

We are looking for community members to come speak to students about what they do for a living. If you know anyone else in the community who would be a good fit for students to learn about, we welcome their participation! We want to have a wide variety of careers represented, including trade professions, small business owners, stay at home parents, office workers, STEM careers, and more! Whatever you do, kids will want to learn more!

Some things you can do to make your time with students engaging are bringing props or materials you use at work and creating a visual. James John will provide a template for you to use to help create a visual.

Depending on how many volunteers are able to join us, we would ideally like people to be available between 8:30-10:30. We will communicate more specific times as we get closer to the date and know how many volunteers have officially signed up. If you’d like to volunteer or have any questions or concerns, please contact Beth Colón using this Google Form by Friday, March 24th.

Este año tendremos nuestro primer Día de las Profesiones y necesitamos su ayuda.

El Día de las Profesiones es una oportunidad para que las familias y la comunidad inspiren a nuestros estudiantes. En adición es una buena forma de que nuestro equipo de AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) pueda ayudar a nuestros alumnos a aprender más sobre las opciones profesionales que ellos tendrán en el futuro. El propósito es motivar a los estudiantes a ampliar sus horizontes y explorar otras alternativas de aprendizaje.

Estamos buscando miembros de la comunidad que puedan venir y hablar con nuestros alumnos sobre sus profesiones. Si usted o alguien que usted conoce tiene una profesión que usted entiende será de interés para nuestros estudiantes, les exhortamos a participar como voluntarios este día.

Si usted desea participar, les compartimos algunas ideas para hacer que su presentación sea interesante para los estudiantes:

• Traer objetos o instrumentos que utiliza para realizar su trabajo

• Crear un visual

• Nosotros les proveeremos una plantilla para que la utilice como guía para su presentación

Luego de saber cuantos voluntarios tenemos, le daremos información detallada sobre este día. Por el momento necesitamos que estén disponibles de 8:30-10:30.
