An Update from the Superintendent's Office - September 2022

Knightly NewsAn Update from the Superintendent's Office -September 2022
We have had a great start to this school year and have really enjoyed having kids back in the building! We jumped right in with assessments to determine individual student needs and dove right into the curriculum. In fact, our 3rd-8th grade students have already taken their first state NSCAS assessment as the state is looking for growth after testing students in the fall, winter, and spring. Instead of only testing in the spring, the state is asking school districts to test during the fall, winter, and spring and will accept the highest score of the three test sessions for English Language Arts and Math. These assessments will take the place of the MAP assessment for 3rd-8th grade that we have done previously. You will receive more information about your child's individual scores and any necessary supports at Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 17 and 20 but please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions or concerns.

School Lunch Visitors

We welcome parents, grandparents, and mentors to eat lunch at school with our students. We ask; however, that visitors notify the office by 9:00 a.m. if they are eating school lunch as our kitchen staff needs to prepare appropriate amounts of food. In addition, we ask that children that aren't in school do not attend with you (i.e. siblings that aren't yet school age, etc.) as that can become a distraction. Lastly, visitors should sign out in the office immediately after lunch unless permission has been granted to remain in the building or on school grounds by the building principal.

Covid Update

Oakland-Craig Public Schools is hoping to move forward with this school year as normal as possible. You can view our very short pandemic plan below but essentially, we ask that if your child is sick they stay home. We aren't requiring Covid testing; however, if you test your child and he/she is positive, he/she will be required to stay home for five days from symptom onset or the positive Covid test. Once they have completed their five days of isolation, the child will be able to return to school (if symptom free) and wear a mask for an additional five days. If you do not wish for your child to wear a mask at school, he/she will be required to stay at home for an additional five days.

Facility Updates

We completed several projects over the summer. Please click on the link below to see the before and after pictures. I'd like to remind everyone that the funds used for these projects come out of the Special Building Fund. This fund can only be used on buildings and grounds. We cannot pay for classroom supplies, staffing, etc. out of this fund. After paying for all of our summer projects we will have approximately $1.3 million left in our Special Building Fund and are not planning to contribute any additional property tax dollars to this account at this time.
