Charger Check-In
September 3, 2026
Good Afternoon SCA Families!
It has been a hot week at SCA! Our air conditioning units have been working hard to keep the students cool! Our teachers have also been working hard to find fun and creative ways to keep students learning with the hot temps! That being said many of our AC window units are no longer working. Our teachers have been managing, unfortunately we had two additional units stop working this afternoon. New units have been purchased and we will begin installing them as they arrive.
DUE TO THIS WE WILL DISMISS STUDENTS TOMORROW AT 11:30 am. 😎
No Aftercare will be available.
**We will consider the afternoon remote learning time. Any work related to afternoon classes will be sent home for remote learning. This will allow us to not have to make up time at the end of the school year.
We are getting excited for our Back to School Night! It will be a great evening for all of you to connect with you child(ren's) teachers and hear about all of the wonderful things they will be doing here at school this year. We will also meet in church to welcome everyone back to school through prayer and some information about some of our school organizations. They work so hard to help our students and staff!
Enjoy the long weekend! I'm sure many of you are looking forward to a Monday off and gatherings with family and friends.
God Bless and Go Chargers!
Ms. Zerth
🔴⚡🖤We are excited to welcome you all for Back to School night! Your teachers will provide you more specific details regarding your child's classroom.

⛔🔶Arrival and Dismissal Reminders🔶⛔
Please be mindful to remain behind the orange cones and along the guardrail for arrival and dismissal for K-6th grade. The reason for this is two-fold:
- Child Safety
- Student separation and responsibility
Crossing Guard Info and Additional Reminders
- Crossing guards are located at Pulaski Rd. at 107th St., Kedvale Ave. at 107th St., and at the Green Strip on Kedvale Ave.
Before school crossing guards arrive at 7:40AM and leave at 8:05AM
After school crossing guards arrive just before student dismissal and remain for 15 minutes after dismissal time.
The construction project on Pulaski Rd. at 107th St. is still impacting foot traffic and making an already challenging crossing more difficult. Please use extra time and caution and remain vigilant when crossing at this intersection.
Kedvale Ave. (between 107th St. and 105th St.) and Karlov Ave. (between 105th Pl. and 106th Pl.) are designated school zones with a maximum speed limit of 20 MPH.
Illinois law prohibits the use of cell phones and other handheld devices while driving in a posted school speed zone. This applies to all drivers, regardless of age.
The North parking lot is reserved for faculty only. It should not be used for through traffic, student drop-off, or pick-up, as there is significant student foot traffic during these times.
🚧Oak Lawn Road Construction Update 🚧
Road construction along 105th Street has now reached Kedvale Avenue. Please use extra caution when traveling through the area and allow additional time during drop-off and pick-up. The safety of our students, families, and staff is our highest priority. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as this work continues. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe!

Welcome to our New Staff
Francine Frieske -- PreK 4 Half Day
Hello SCA! I am the new half-day, four-year-old preschool teacher, and this is my first-year
teaching at St. Catherine’s. I have taught preschool, kindergarten, and early childhood special
education for over 30 years in the Chicago Public Schools. I am excited to bring my passion for
early childhood teaching to St. Catherine’s and help joyfully foster our young Chargers’ love of
learning and their love for themselves, each other, and God.
My husband Bill and I raised our two sons in St. Cajetan’s parish. We have two grandchildren
who are three years old and nine months old. Our grandchildren are the loves of our lives. We
feel so blessed to have them.
I am looking forward to a wonderful school year!
Yoli Gamboa -- Assistant to Fancine Frieske
Hello my name is Yolanda Gamboa but known as Yoli. Last year I was a staff member of the Extended Day Program, where I came to know many of the children and SCA families. What really impressed me is the sense of community at SCA which I see is a parish that is truly vibrant and alive. When I was asked to be a pre-K 4 aide, I happily accepted the opportunity to become an active part of SCA.
I retired from the University of Illinois at Chicago after 32 years of service as an IT professional. Not wanting to stay at home, I then worked for 7 years as a part-time bilingual assistant to the principal at St. Mary Star of the Sea School where I was also a Girl Scout leader for many years. I then worked for 16 years as a bi-lingual Funeral Director’s Assistant serving many families in their time of need. I did not see it as a job but as a ministry for I truly believe that we are all called to serve in various ways and make a difference no matter how small.
I am so excited to be a part of the faith filled community of SCA. I look forward to helping inspire our children to learn and grow in their faith, to see the importance of family and see that we are all part of the Family of God.
Family and Student Services -- Janet Zawaski
Mrs. Zawaski will serve as a resource to strengthen partnerships between home and school for parents. Mrs. Zawaski will help coordinate a new program for our students facing academic ineligibility. This afterschool program will provide students with structured academic support, homework assistance, organization, and study skills. She will collaborate with teachers and administration to identify students who may benefit from additional interventions.
Mrs. Zawaski will also serve as a primary contact for families seeking support, assist with school enrollment, registration, and prospective student tours.
We are excited to have her as our family and student service coordinator. She has been with SCA for many years and is a wealth of knowledge!
