HES Shark Scoop

April 11, 2025
Dear HES Caregivers,
What a joyful week it’s been at HES! Spirit Week was a big hit. Our Sharks brought their enthusiasm and creativity each day as we celebrated Autism Appreciation Month together. It was heartwarming to see so much school spirit and support throughout the week.
A big shout out to our fourth graders, who showed incredible effort and focus during this week’s MCAS tests. We’re proud of the hard work they put in! Next week, we’ll wrap up ELA testing with makeup sessions for any 3rd and 4th grade students who were absent.
As we continue to enjoy the current school year, we’re also starting to look ahead. I’m now accepting Optional Caregiver Input for Placement for the 2025–2026 school year through Wednesday, April 23rd.
Here’s a quick overview of how our placement process works:
First, I review any input provided by caregivers.
Then, our classroom teachers and specialists collaborate to create balanced class groupings. We consider a variety of factors—gender, academic and social strengths, areas of support, and positive working relationships (not necessarily close friendships).
Finally, the administration assigns teachers to these groups. Please note that some staff members may be moving to different grade levels next year.
Family input is one important part of a thoughtful and multi-layered process. I will do my best to honor requests, though I may not be able to accommodate all of them.
Wishing you all a relaxing and enjoyable weekend! As always, feel free to reach out—I'm here to support you and your Sharks.
Warmly,
Christie
Hello HES community! This year we are so excited to be presenting Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with our amazing 4th grade students. Our talented and creative Set Crew members are working hard building the sets for the 4th grade actors to shine. We are in need of some donations for the set to come together a lot easier. Anything from the list that you can contribute would help us immensely!
Thank You from our Stage Crew!

Third graders enjoyed presentations from meteorologist, Jacob Wycoff, from WBZ and park ranger, Samantha Gray, from the Cape Cod Canal.

Call the Attendance Line If Your Shark Is Absent
Per the handbook, if your child is unable to attend school, please enter the absence in PickUp Patrol and/or call our designated attendance line, 617-848-0115, as early as possible. Soon after arrival, our office staff begins to call the caregivers of absent students if we haven't already heard from them. This is important, as we want to ensure that all students are safe. Your phone message with the reason for the absence is all we need. While an email to the teacher is helpful, it sometimes doesn't make its way to the office staff. Thank you for your help!
