Announcements
Congratulations Class of 2025
Congratulations class of 2025!! We wish you nothing but the best in your future endeavors!!
Finish Strong
The year is rapidly coming to a close. Knights, please make sure you are remediating and completing your work. It will be over before you know it!
Parents, we need your support!
Parents, Spotsylvania High school has been fortunate to have the involvement of a phenomenal Athletic Boosters organization and PTSO organization. Both organizations have been instrumental in the experiences of our students, our athletes, and even our community as they attend athletic events. In order to keep these two organizations functional, we need additional parent support. If you would be interested in supporting SHS by working with either of these organizations, please take a moment and fill out the form below. We appreciate your support!
Summer School Information
- Will be held at Chancellor High School from June 9th through June 26th, Monday-Thursday from 8:30-2:30. There will be no school, however, on June 19th.
- Summer school is for recovery classes ONLY, meaning students can only register if they have failed the class for the year.
- Students may register for more than one class if needed. On the form linked below, it will have you select one class and later on in the form select other classes if needed.
- Summer school is free for all recovery classes!
- There is transportation provided, HOWEVER, it is not the same stop as during the regular school year and buses do not go to all roads. Per the transportation department, bus stops during summer school are designed for the student to be dropped off at the stop to be picked up by a bus.
- Once you register, you will be sent bus information.
- If you are unsure about if your child is likely to fail a class for the year, please reach out to that particular teacher. Because summer school is free, we can always remove the student's registration if the student ends up passing the class at the end of the current school year.

Attention Rising 12th Graders
Please see the information about required immunizations for entering 12th grade below.
Attention Juniors
Attention Juniors! We will begin taking your senior portraits in May. You must sign up and make an appointment. The required attire for the school’s yearbook pose are traditional Tuxedos and Drapes; provided by Victor O'Neill Studio. Please contact Mrs. Fiefhaus if you wish to provide your own formal wear. The studio also offers casuals and cap & gown photos. Please follow the link below to choose your session type and appointment time:
Attention current 9th-11th graders
PLEASE check your course requests for next year on StudentVue! If you find an error or have a question, please email your counselor. We are still working on getting SCTC courses into requests, so if you were accepted and it is not listed, it will be soon! Because we are heavy into our testing season, counselors are not readily available, so please email them with a change or question as opposed to coming down to the counseling center. You can find who your school counselor is and their email in the counseling portion of this newsletter. If you have not already turned in your special request form for early release, late arrival, or every other day, please do so ASAP (we have plenty in counseling). If you do not, you will be placed in a full schedule, which is 8 blocks. There will be no schedule changes made after May 23rd. The only changes made will be for clerical errors or level changes (i.e. honors to regular).
Attention Student Drivers
As we approach the end of the year and the weather is getting nicer, please remember the rules of the road. Be mindful of speed limits (especially in school zones), be aware of buses dropping off and picking up students, and do not text and drive. Have a safe drive!

Evolv Information
Evolv Message to Parents
Spotsylvania County Public Schools takes the safety of our students and staff very seriously. To enhance our existing security efforts at Spotsylvania High School, beginning on March 4th, we will launch the Evolv Detection System to screen students and visitors for potential weapons.
The Evolv weapons detection screening systems will be installed at the following locations (please see the map below):
• Parent Dropoff - Main Doors/Front Entrance for
• Bus Entrance/Student Drivers - Stairwells off the academic wing
All students and guests entering the building will walk through the Evolv screening detector. Students will need to remove their Chromebook from their backpack and prepare to hand it to a staff member when they get to the detector. Students will wear their backpacks and carry any other items (instrument cases, purses, gym bags, etc.) through the detector for screening. Students will simply walk through the screening system and follow the instructions of staff members stationed there to assist them.
About the Evolv Screening System:
The Evolv screening detector uses artificial intelligence and sensor technology to determine if an individual has a weapon on their person or contained within any items passing through the sensors. The detector can distinguish between a phone, keys, or other personal items from a potential weapon. The technology is quick and can screen 10 times faster than traditional metal detectors, reducing wait times. The Evolv screening detector we are using is the same system that has scanned more than 350 million people in the US, second only to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). This technology is used at locations around the U.S., including s schools, hospitals, theme parks, stadiums, and workplaces.
What happens when the System Alerts?
A low-volume alarm and a visible red light will alert staff of the potential threat. At the same time, the scanner will send an image to a tablet screen that shows the area where the potential threat is located. The individual will then follow the school's secondary screening guidelines, where staff will direct the student to empty their pockets, backpack, or belongings based on where the tablet identified the location of the threat. Students found with items that violate school board policy will be disciplined as per the Student Code of Conduct.
A video will be shared with students and parents prior to the installation to provide students a look at the system and share our expectations. We encourage you to discuss these new procedures with your child and stress the importance of following the directions of those overseeing the scanning process. Also, please stress the importance of only bringing needed items to school.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping our schools a safe learning environment. If you have any questions about the new Evolv detection system, please reach out to me.
