Dear Families,

Vacation week is finally here, and both staff and students are ready for some well-deserved downtime. Whatever your plans may be, we hope this break brings opportunities to make meaningful memories and to rest and recharge.

As we move into the final stretch of the school year, we ask that parents take a few minutes to review the Wildcat Expectations found in your child’s Go Folder. We will continue to hold all students to high behavioral standards while maintaining a strong focus on learning and growth.

We also want to share that on May 4th, we will hold our first No Tech Day. On this day, students will not use their devices during the school day unless they are in Digital Literacy or have a required accommodation. This initiative is designed to encourage different forms of engagement and learning. As with any new practice, we anticipate there may be a few adjustments along the way, and we appreciate your support as we work through this together.

Recently, we have seen an increase in students not taking proper care of their Chromebooks. Two weeks ago, I met with students to review expectations for handling these devices, including not peeling the frame around the keys. Unfortunately, this issue has continued to rise. Our technology department has made it clear that this type of damage is unlikely to occur without significant misuse. As a result, if a student brings a Chromebook to the office with this issue, we will not be able to provide a loaner device. Students will instead complete their work using pencil and paper until their Chromebook is repaired. The limited number of loaners we have will be reserved for situations not caused by misuse.

On May 8, we will be hosting a school wide assembly featuring guest speaker Brett Outchcunis, also known as “Ooch.” Ooch is a motivational speaker who works with students on topics such as kindness, leadership, anti-bullying, and making positive choices. He delivers his message in an engaging and interactive way, incorporating impressive yo-yo tricks to capture students’ attention and make his message memorable. We are excited for our students to hear his perspective and experiences.

Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to a strong finish to the school year.

Sincerely,

B.J. Martin

HARD AT WORK HARD AT WORK

Students in Mrs. Serian’s Social Studies class created homemade and creative board games to demonstrate their understanding of the 13 Colonies and the Revolutionary War. Students will have the opportunity to play the games during a “Board Game Day” while also celebrating Spirit Week with the theme, Waves of Color.

Dear Parents/Guardians & WCS Students,

As the warmer weather arrives, we’d like to remind all students and families about the Windham School District dress code. All tops, midsections, and bottoms must be appropriately covered at all times.

If a student is not dressed according to the dress code, they will be asked to call home. If a parent or guardian is unable to bring appropriate clothing to school, the student will be asked to select an item from the clothing bin available in the nurse’s office.

Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us maintain a respectful and appropriate learning environment.

Mrs. Martin

The Center School Field Day is Monday June 8th (with a rain date of June 9th).

We are in need of parent volunteers for the Center School Field Day Monday June 8th (rain date Tuesday June 9th) to have a successful day. We have had great responses in the past, and hope this year will be the same.

Volunteers (with a staff member and possibly another parent) will lead a 30 minute station.

Assistance may also be provided from another teacher or staff member (who will rotate to that activity with their class). Directions/rules will be provided. Some stations are outside, some are inside, and activities range from "Name that Tune" to "Scooter Board Hockey" to Capture the Football”, so please bring sneakers and be ready for some fun!

If you are available to help for the entire school day from 7:45am-2:00pm please use the link below to register to volunteer.

Both the Vector Training (annually from the prior completion date) & the fingerprinting/background check must be completed/up-to-date to volunteer.

WCS Field Day Parent Volunteer Form

-We will confirm volunteers (as long as there is a cleared background on file with the district and the Vector training is complete), and more details will be emailed to you between a week prior to the event.

If you have not been cleared to volunteer with the district yet, please go to https://www.windhamsd.org/resources/parents/volunteer_information for instructions (the turn around time takes 3-4 weeks for fingerprints and background checks).

Please email with any questions.

PowerSchool Products PowerSchool Products

To help our parents and guardians feel more comfortable navigating the various PowerSchool products the district uses, the tech department will regularly share support and learning tools in the newsletters. We hope these tech tips, which will include a variety of videos, PDF instructions, deep dives, and quick tips, will help our community become more comfortable using our primary resources: MyPowerHub (The Hub), the PowerSchool Parent Portal, and the PowerSchool Mobile App. Additionally, these resources will be added to our website's Parent Technology Resource Center so you can revisit them at any time.

We are starting with a video overview of MyPowerHub. Click here to launch the video.

This overview highlights the version you access via a web browser. Just as a reminder, our Hub login URL is: https://windhamsd.guardian.powerschool.com/
