The SISD Board of Trustees approved Cody Stutts as the leader for Sunnyvale’s ISD’s Athletics Department at tonight’s called board meeting.

“Coach Stutts believes in developing every Raider from the youngest to our high school students,” Superintendent Matt Kimball said. “From coaching athletes in track and football to running our high school PALS program, Coach Stutts believes in high expectations and high support for all. With the foundation put in place by Coach Settle, Coach Stutts will continue to develop the athletics program for our girls and boys athletes.”

Stutts has been with SISD for the last 8 years as a teacher and coach and is an embedded part of Raider Athletics.

“I want to keep Sunnyvale, Sunnyvale while capitalizing on the growth we are experiencing,” Stutts said. “I love this community, and I truly feel we have some of the best and brightest student athletes in the country. I can’t wait to unlock their full potential and build on the winning traditions we already have.”

Coach Stutts replaces long-time Athletic Director John Settle, who recently announced his retirement after 34 years in education and coaching.

“I could not be more proud to completely endorse Cody Stutts as the new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Sunnyvale,” Settle said. “Cody will bring organization, enthusiasm, and a love for kids that will make him very successful. Sunnyvale athletics has established itself as one of the premier 4A athletic programs in the state of Texas and Cody will maintain that excellence and he has the ability to take our program to even greater heights. I can’t imagine anyone else that I would have chosen to be in this position. I am proud of him and for him.”

Prior to working in Sunnyvale, Stutts coached at Mesquite High School, Princeton High School, Naaman Forrest High School and Creekview High School. Ultimately, his career took him to Sunnyvale, where he found the community to be difficult to replicate.

“The small town and small school feel that is so difficult to find anywhere near the metroplex,” he said. “And the people. Sunnyvale is full of the best people.”

Stutts' goals in the short term are to create plans to take care of the people in his athletics program.

“I hope to make Sunnyvale coaches and students feel valued and cared for,” he said. “I want to dive in and discover where we can do better and be better. Then I want to put plans in motion to take action.”

In the long-term, he hopes to ensure the Raiders’ winning traditions continue.

“My theme for the Sunnyvale athletic programs is “Raider Built," he said. "As I mentioned, Sunnyvale has a winning tradition, but I envision even more success,” Stutts said. “I want to build on what we have done to take our programs to the next level. I also want to ensure that our programs from kindergarten up are vertically aligned and that all of our Sunnyvale students know what it means to be a Raider. I want to build student athletes of character, discipline, and enthusiasm from the ground up. I want them to be RAIDER BUILT!”

Coach Stutts and his wife Emily live in Sunnyvale and have three Raiders of their own: Preston is 10 and in fourth grade at SIS, Pierce is 7 and is in first grade at SES and Patton is 3 and is currently in Pre-K.
