First Sunday of Lent
Prelude: Prelude in E♭ Major
Welcome and Announcements
Call to Worship: © The Iona Community, from Iona Abbey Big Book of Liturgies, (Wild Goose Publications, 2016) www.ionabooks.com
One: With nature in its power and beauty, with rain and wind and sunshine, with the ancient rocks and the budding flower,
All: We gather in praise of God.
With believers and seekers the whole world wide, with people in every land, and speakers in every language,
We gather in praise of God.
With the angels and saints in heaven,
With our ancestors in the faith who built community here,
And with all who have worshipped in this place,
We gather in praise of God.
With Jesus who promised his presence and the Spirit who showers her blessings,
We gather in praise of God.
Here let heaven and earth embrace;
Here may God’s people find home.

More Ways to Connect at Calvary
Being Good Neighbors: A Shared Commitment to Civic Life
At Calvary, our community is a beautiful tapestry of diverse backgrounds and political perspectives. As we strive to be both good neighbors and faithful citizens, we recognize that sharing our concerns and gratitude with our elected officials is a vital way to seek the flourishing of our world.
One of our members, Allen Hueffmeier, is offering free, volunteer help for members of the church who want to contact their U.S. Senators or Representative. After someone shares which official they want to write to and the issue they care about, he will draft a clear, respectful, print-ready letter with specific, realistic requests the office can act on. When appropriate, he can also point to relevant current legislation and include a brief summary and sources so the message is credible and easy to follow up on. To get started, contact Allen Hueffmeier at hueffmea@hotmail.com.
Dining with Friends
Dining with Friends is meeting at Mediterranean Café & Grill on Tuesday, February 24th at 6:30pm. The restaurant is located in Cracker Barrel plaza on Tilghman St. at Route 100 in Fogelsville. If you are planning to attend, please call or text Sam Spagnola at 835-241-2968 by February 20. Join us for fellowship and great food.
Moravian Women's Groups
Our Moravian Women groups offer a wonderful opportunity for fellowship each month now that we are into the fall months! We are currently exploring The Difficult Words of Jesus by Amy-Jill Levine, a thoughtful resource that invites us to wrestle honestly with Jesus’ challenging teachings. We are using both her book and some short videos from AJ herself to guide our conversations.
If you are interested in joining, we have two groups that meet in the first week of each month:
Afternoon Group: Wednesday, March 4 at 1:00 PM
Meets in person during the afternoon in the conference room!
Evening Group: Monday, March 2 at 7:30 PM – on Zoom
This group meets virtually, you are invited to use the following information to join us!

All women are warmly invited to participate in either group or both! Whether you’re new or returning, we’d love to have you join us for fellowship and discussion.
Adult Sunday School
Our Adult Sunday School takes place almost every Sunday after worship at 11am! We are always welcoming new folks to come join us for a discussion of scripture and how we can bring it into our everyday lives. The group is led by our Vice Chair of Elders, Jeff Diehl, and we tend to meet in the sanctuary, up toward the baptismal font. We hope to see you there!
Midweek Bible Study
All are invited to join us for Bible Study each Thursday at 10:00 AM! We meet in person and online, so even if you are not able to participate in person, we would love for you to join our discussion! Our Lenten study is called We All Want A Better World, and is a new Moravian resource.

Please email your contact information, even if nothing has changed.
This year, we’re also adding a special new section highlighting the professional and personal masteries and interests of our members. Ways to Give to the Ministries at Calvary
As reminder, there are several different ways to give your offerings here at Calvary.
- Bring your offering to Sunday worship.
- Mail your offering to the church office at 948 N. 21st Street, Allentown, PA 18104.
- Use your bank’s “BILL PAY” service. A one-time or recurring payment can be made by a bank on your behalf. Banks that offer this service typically cut a check and mail it to the church at no cost to you. Contact your bank for details. The bank usually asks for an account number. Just call Calvary office beforehand and Jess will supply an account number to you or just use your envelope number.
- Make an online payment through the Moravian Giving Portal – https://mmfa.info/giving-portal/. Go to this link, click on our church’s name and follow the instructions to make a one-time gift or a recurring monthly gift. Donations can be made by members and non-members via direct debit of a bank account or by credit card. All donation processing fees for portal gifts are now paid by the Moravian Ministries Foundation – your full donation will be received by your church.
