In his Superintendent's Report at the June 23 District 28 Board of Education meeting, Dr. Pearson shared that construction is underway this summer at Greenbriar, Meadowbrook, and Westmoor as part of the district's Build 28 initiative!

Greenbriar

At Greenbriar, construction crews are preparing the site, and demolition is underway to build a new classroom addition on the south side of the building. Click here to learn more about the plans for Greenbriar

Meadowbrook

At Meadowbrook, construction crews are building the foundation that will support the new Meadowbrook school. They're also excavating the front parking lot of the current school to install the new school's underground stormwater management system. The new underground system will help collect and manage rainwater during heavy storms, benefiting not only the school campus but also the surrounding neighborhood. The new Meadowbrook School is anticipated to be ready for the start of the 2027-2028 school year. Classes will be conducted as usual in the current Meadowbrook School during construction. Check out this time-lapse video taken from the south side of the campus from May 11 to June 23!

Westmoor

At Westmoor, construction crews are preparing the site, and demolition is underway to build a new cafetorium (cafeteria/auditorium) addition on the north side of the building. Click here to learn more about the plans for Westmoor.

NBJH

Northbrook Junior High is currently in the design phase and is expected to go to bid in late fall/early winter.

At the June 23 Board meeting, the Board appointed Whitney Goldin to serve on the District 28 Board of Education. Ms. Goldin was selected from 10 applicants, and she was among four candidates the Board interviewed in an executive session.

Ms. Goldin is a Meadowbrook parent with an incoming kindergarten student and an incoming third-grade student. A graduate of Chicago-Kent College of Law, she is a former attorney with experience working at various Chicago-area law firms. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Rolfe Pancreatic Cancer Foundation and supports various pancreatic cancer non-profit organizations across the country. In 2023, Ms. Goldin was named one of WGN's “Chicago’s Very Own” for her fundraising efforts. She earned her bachelor's degree in Political Science and Communication Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

“We are thrilled to welcome Whitney to the District 28 Board of Education,” said Board President Mara Silver-Schack. “A former trial attorney who now works in the nonprofit sector, Whitney brings valuable professional experience along with the perspective of a Meadowbrook parent of two young children. At the June 23 Board meeting, the Board approved the district's Code of Conduct, which is a districtwide discipline framework that helps ensure a safe and productive school atmosphere. The Code of Conduct is reviewed annually by a committee with representation from the Board, parents, teachers, and school and district administrators. The committee engaged in a collaborative review of the Code of Conduct, and key outcomes of the meeting included:

  • Reviewing the components and processes that inform the Parent/Student Handbook
  • Discussing the District’s Code of Conduct, student behavior policies, and disciplinary procedures
  • Examining current District initiatives, data, and practices related to student behavior
  • Generating ideas to strengthen student, parent/guardian, and staff understanding of and awareness of the Code of Conduct

The committee’s feedback will help inform ongoing efforts to ensure that behavior expectations,

supports, and procedures are clearly communicated and understood by all stakeholders. The Code of Conduct can be found in Section 4 of the district's Student-Parent Handbook.

The previous three-year contract expires at the end of this month. District and NFT representatives worked collaboratively throughout the negotiation process, resulting in an agreement that supports educators and benefits students, families, and the broader school community.
