Principal's Message

Hello, HCHS Community!

Welcome to week three! It’s exciting to see everyone getting settled in. It’s especially exciting to see our athletics getting out there and competing. Tennis, Water Polo, and Cross Country have all started with matches and meets. Cross Country had their first meet this Friday under the lights. A special mention to freshman Sofia Ocampo, who medaled at the JV level. I predict this team is going to keep getting better!

Tuesday, our JV and Varsity teams face Holmes after school, and this Saturday, Cross Country has a meet at the NISD Sports Complex. Both Boys and Girls Water Polo compete at the NISD 1604 Swim Center. It would be great if everyone found a Health Careers athletic event to attend and show your Phoenix pride! Check our calendar for times and locations for all athletic events.

I want to encourage everyone to support our PTA this Wednesday at the Jason’s Deli Spirit Night. Grab dinner, support our PTA, and help us raise funds that go directly back toward supporting HCHS.

Bark Alerts

All parents and students need to be aware of the Bark system used by NISD. Bark monitors student communication through their school Google accounts and searches for language that may indicate a student could be involved in a potentially dangerous situation, including language associated with self-harm, bullying, violence, or other concerning or inappropriate content.

If a student is working on a Google Doc, using Google Chat, sending an email, or using another Google application, Bark may alert a counselor and an administrator if concerning language is detected. The alert includes the relevant text so that school staff can review the situation and provide support or take appropriate action when necessary.

Keep Up With Events - School Google Calendar

You can always see what is happening at Health Careers by checking our Campus Calendar. It can be found linked on our website. You can also find it here. It will let you know about athletic events, club meeting dates, Flex periods, and whether it's an A-day or B-day!

Off Campus Lunch

Students can still pick up off-campus forms in the front office. It is important to know that turning in the form does not guarantee off-campus privileges. In addition to qualifying grades and attendance, students will need to be on track to be college or career ready per NISD policy. This can be achieved by being enrolled in an AP or Dual Credit course or a Career pathway that leads to an A-F Industry-Based Certification.

Students must be on track to achieve CCMR by being enrolled in a course that earns CCMR status and taking the correlating exam (if applicable) and/or on track to complete a CTE pathway and correlating Industry-Based-Certification.

Personal Communication Device Policy

In compliance with state law, the use of personal communication devices by students is not allowed at any NISD campus during the school day, from the first official bell to the last official bell to include passing periods and lunch periods.

Personal communication devices include cell phones, smart watches, earbuds, tablets, or any other electronic devices. If students choose to bring these items to campus, they will be required to comply with campus specific storage procedures (see section A).

Notice of Liability: Northside ISD is not responsible for the loss, theft, or damage of any personal communication devices brought onto campus or stored under these guidelines. Students choose to bring these items to school at their own risk.

Students in violation of this State law and district policy will be subject to progressive disciplinary consequences, to include confiscation of the device. Confiscated items will be released to the student's parent/guardian .

Dress Code

  • Professional Appearance: As a campus that works closely with healthcare professionals and community partners, Health Careers High School maintains a higher standard of dress and grooming to prepare students for professional environments.

  • Hair Color: Hair should be a natural color. Unnatural colors (such as blue, green, purple, or bright red) and large sections of contrasting natural colors (e.g., half blonde/half black) are not permitted. Subtle highlights are acceptable.

  • Piercings: Only traditional ear studs or rings are permitted. Gauges and facial piercings (including nose, eyebrow, lip, and cheek piercings) are not allowed.

  • Shorts & Skirts: Students may wear shorts and skirts that are mid-thigh length or longer.

  • Questions: Families are encouraged to review the complete dress code before the school year begins and contact the school if they have questions about whether an item meets expectations.
