In 2018, Senate Bill 379 (SB 379) passed that allows schools to use passive consent for Kindergarten Oral Health Assessments (KOHA) for kindergarten students and was recently expanded to include transitional kindergarten students.
· Passive consent requires parents to notify, in writing, if they do NOT want their child to receive an assessment.
· Early Smiles Sacramento will be providing dental screenings and completing the KOHA form for transitional kindergarten and kindergartener students at Greer on Monday 10/20/25.
· If you want your child to participate in the "FREE" Dental Screenings for his/her grade, NO further action is required.
· If you want your child to receive a "FREE" Dental Screening, Fluoride Varnish Treatment (teeth vitamins), and help establishing your student with a dentist, please fill out the Early Smiles Sacramento consent form that was sent home with your student.
· If you do not want your student to participate in the "FREE" Dental Screening, please let your teacher know, in writing, before the screening date.
