Red Ribbon Week is Here!
Hello Husky Nation!
A part of parenting means actively guiding and protecting your children as they navigate the choices and challenges of growing up. One of the most important aspects of this role is helping them build a strong foundation to stay drug-free. Children look to their parents and trusted adults for boundaries, values, and reassurance, and establishing clear expectations around drug and alcohol prevention creates a safe environment where they feel supported. Open, honest conversations about the real dangers of substance abuse give kids the confidence and knowledge they need to make healthy choices, resist peer pressure, and value their own well-being.
Red Ribbon Week provides a powerful, natural opportunity for families to come together and highlight the importance of living a drug-free life. Held annually, this campaign encourages schools, communities, and families to wear red ribbons or wrist bands and participate in activities (Spirit Week) that emphasize healthy living. As a trusted adult, using Red Ribbon Week as a focal point allows you to reinforce these crucial lessons in an engaging way. It transforms abstract conversations into visible, positive community action, showing children that standing against drug abuse is a shared commitment celebrated by adults, teachers, and peers alike.
Ultimately, guiding your kiddo to stay drug-free is an ongoing journey built on consistent love, listening, and presence. By participating in traditions like Red Ribbon Week and maintaining open lines of communication year-round, you demonstrate that their choices matter deeply to you. Being successful at this isn’t about expecting perfection; it is about providing the continuous support, boundaries, and positive reinforcement that help children grow into resilient, confident adults who take pride in living a safe and healthy life.

Rollin' With the Huskies!
Thank You for Rollin' With the Huskies!
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Rollin’ with the Huskies a success! Thanks to the incredible generosity of our students, families, and community, we raised more than $24,000!
We finally got to celebrate this past week, and the weather couldn't have been better! Students enjoyed an exciting Roll Day on Monday, complete with a colorful finish line celebration, followed by a fun BMX stunt show the next day.
We are so grateful to our teachers, staff, volunteers, and everyone who donated, shared fundraising pages, or helped make this event possible. Funds raised will support plans for new picnic tables, supplies for student field experiences, and a mural to bring even more color and school spirit to Holt! Be sure to follow Holt PTO on Instagram for updates on these projects and all the other ways we're supporting our students and staff throughout the year!

Beginning with the 2027-28 school year, Fayetteville Public Schools will adjust to new feeder patterns. A feeder pattern is the grouping of elementary schools that will attend the same middle school and junior high school. The current feeder patterns split some elementary schools, sending part of their students to one middle school and the remainder to another middle school. It also splits some middle schools when the students move up to junior high, sending some to one junior high and the remainder to another. However, the new 2027-28 feeder pattern keeps all of the students from an elementary school together as they transition to middle school and junior high without splitting them.
Beginning next school year, August of 2027, all students zoned for Holt Middle School under the new feeder pattern (Owl Creek & Holcomb) will attend John L Colbert Junior High School.
If you have a 5th grade student who currently attends Holt and you live in the Asbell or Butterfield zones, your child will be zoned to attend McNair Middle School next year.
If you have a 5th grade student who currently attends Holt and you live in the Root zone, your child will be zoned to attend Thomason Middle School next year.
If you reside in the Holcomb zone, Holt will remain your middle school.
If you currently attend Holt but are not zoned for our school, the link below provides more information on how the new feeder pattern might impact you once your child leaves Holt.
However, the district is offering a one-year-only grandfather provision to allow your student to remain at Holt for the 2027-28 school year, as long as you provide transportation to and from school. A survey regarding the grandfather option will be emailed on Monday, Oct. 19th, to those of you residing within the Asbell, Butterfield, and Root zones.
For our 6th graders who reside in the Holcomb zone, you will be assigned to John L Colbert Junior High for the 2027-28 school year.
If you are a 6th grader living in the Asbell or Butterfield zones, you will be assigned to Woodland Junior High.
Finally, if you are a 6th grader living in the Root zone, you will be assigned to Ramay Junior High.
Parents of students who are not eligible for the grandfather provision can still request an in-district transfer through the district's standard process.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Matt Morningstar
