The Chesak Chatter

From the Principal’s Corner 💛
Greetings Chesak Families and Friends,
Week four was filled with hard work, laughter, connection, and so many moments of kindness. We kicked off Start with Hello Week with our Start with Hello assembly and ended the week with an exciting PTA Fun Run! Each smile, encouraging word, and helping hand added another splash of color to our Chesak community and reminded us of the impact we can make when we lead with kind hearts.
Now, we’re heading into week five ready to keep Coloring Our School with Kindness!
This week is all about continuing to build connections and recognizing the power of a simple “Hello.” Every greeting is an opportunity to include someone, brighten their day, and add a little more kindness to our school.
Thank you for helping us bring our theme to life each day. Together, we are growing Bright Minds, Kind Hearts, and making a Big Impact!
Let’s keep adding color, kindness, and Cheetah pride as we thrive into week five!!

🏡 Home-School Connection
🏠 Home-School Connection: Start With Hello!
This week, Chesak is participating in Start With Hello Week, a special opportunity to help our students understand how something as simple as saying hello, including others, and showing kindness can help everyone feel connected and valued. Throughout the week, students will be encouraged to build connections and help create a school community where everyone feels they belong.
Families can keep the connection going at home with one simple challenge each day:
- Monday: Count how many times your family says hello to someone new. Turn it into a family “Hello Count!”
- Tuesday: Share a story about a time you reached out to someone who was alone or needed help. Talk about how it made everyone feel.
- Wednesday: Learn how to say hello in a different language—Hola! Bonjour! Cześć!
- Thursday: Ask each person in your family a question about their day.
- Friday: Encourage your child to invite someone new to play at recess, in the neighborhood, or at the playground.
Want to join in on all the fun? Click here to view our Start With Hello Weekly Flyer for the full list of spirit days and home-school connection activities happening throughout the week!
Together, we can show our children that kindness and connection can begin with one simple word: “Hello!” 💚

💻 Huntley 158 Family Learning Series (virtual)
Topic: School Anxiety, Avoidance & Refusal: Symptoms and Interventions
When: Tuesday, September 29, 2026, 6PM - 7PM
Presenter: Jacqueline Rhew, LCPC
Open to all Huntley 158 families
Join via Google Meet
September is Attendance Awareness Month and Huntley 158’s motto is “Your Presence is Your Power.” Every day a student is in school is an opportunity for them to build relationships, learn and access support.
The district is kicking off its first virtual Family Learning Series this year with a presentation by Jacqueline Rhew, a licensed clinical professional counselor, who specializes in school refusal and anxiety in children. The virtual event is free and open to all Huntley 158 families.
Rhew’s presentation will provide parents and caregivers with practical strategies to support their child who may be struggling with school anxiety, avoidance, and school refusal.
She will explore factors that contribute to school avoidance and help parents learn how to recognize early warning signs and unhelpful coping patterns, and better understand how anxiety and avoidance can reinforce one another.
In addition, Rhew will outline specific interventions to help children manage anxiety, increase motivation, set realistic goals, and gradually re-engage in school. Parents will also learn strategies for responding to anxiety without unintentionally reinforcing avoidance, promoting healthy coping and problem-solving, and using communication that builds self-advocacy, confidence, and independence.
