Principal Lima's Family Newsletter

A Wonderful Start to the School Year!
What a wonderful first week of school at Dighton Elementary! It has been so exciting to welcome our Falcons back into the building, see classrooms filled with learning and laughter, and watch students reconnect with friends and staff. We are so proud of how well our students have adjusted to their new routines, classrooms, and expectations.
A reminder that there is no school tomorrow, Friday, September 4, or Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday, September 8.
Next week, we will be holding our first fire drill of the school year. Our staff will review expectations with students ahead of time so they know what to expect and can practice exiting the building safely and calmly.
If there is anything your child’s teacher should know about how your student may respond to fire drills, loud noises, alarms, or unexpected changes in routine, please reach out to their teacher. Sharing this information helps us provide the appropriate support and make the experience as comfortable and successful as possible for every student.
Bus Reminder: If you would like your student to be able to get off the bus without an adult visible at the bus stop, please complete and return the form below. This form must be completed before your child can be released from the bus without an adult present.
Be sure to check out the upcoming events and important dates included in this week’s newsletter.
We look forward to seeing everyone next week and continuing this wonderful start to the school year!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Have a wonderful and relaxing Labor Day weekend, Falcons! 💚💛

Important Information
DR Never Forgets — September 11, 2026
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001. As a district, we will recognize this important anniversary with “DR Never Forgets,” a districtwide day of remembrance, unity, and gratitude. On Friday, September 11, we invite students and staff across all five schools to wear red, white, and blue as we honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost, remember the extraordinary courage of the first responders and everyday Americans who stepped forward to help others, and recognize all those whose lives were forever changed by that day. For many of our students, September 11 is history rather than memory, which makes our responsibility to teach its lessons even more important. Twenty-five years later, DR remembers—not only what our country lost, but the courage, compassion, service, and unity Americans showed in the days that followed. #DRNeverForgets #WeAreDR
Aspen Permissions
Our student information system has a section called "Permissions" that needs to be completed by all new families, and reviewed by returning families. Please be sure to log into your Aspen account and select your "Permissions" for each of your children.
Dighton Rehoboth Regional Student Handbook
One of the required "Permissions" you’ll be asked to sign in Aspen is the Student Handbook. Please take a few moments to review the handbook to ensure you are familiar with both school and district guidelines. Click below to review our student handbook.
Free and Reduced Lunch Forms
Even though all students receive free school meals, it is still very important for families to complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meal Benefits Form.
Dighton Elementary is a Title I school, and the information collected through these forms helps determine the amount of federal and other funding our school may receive. The more accurate our information is, the better we can ensure that DES receives all of the resources available to support our students.
This funding can help provide:
- Additional teachers and instructional support
- Intervention and academic programs
- Classroom materials and technology
- Family engagement opportunities
- Student services and other school resources
Completing the form does not affect your child’s ability to receive free breakfast or lunch. All students will continue to receive meals at no cost.
Even if you believe your family may not qualify, we encourage every family to complete the form. Having complete and accurate information helps us advocate for the funding and resources our students and school deserve.
Free meals are available to everyone—but completing the form helps support much more than meals. Thank you for helping DES!
