The LMS ExpressOctober 19, 2024

Hello all,

It's been a great couple of weeks at LMS! Thanks to everyone that came out for our 2024 LMS Open House on Thursday night. Our tremendous turnout is an indication of the wonderful school-to-family connection that is alive and well at LMS, and throughout the Lebanon School District. We value and appreciate that connection, and we recognize how lucky we are to have such a strong community that values a quality education for our students.

Our first Student-Council-sponsored door decorating contest of the year has officially begun - pictures and winners coming soon!

Thank you for having a look at this edition of the LMS Express.

Be well,

Tom

Alma Update Alma Update

Last week, students switched to their second "30-day EA" of the first trimester. We are not completing progress reports as has been done previously. Grades for the first 30-day EA are available on Alma, and all student grades in other classes are updated regularly. If you are unable to access your student's grades through Alma, please let us know and we can help you.

"Another great episode by our podcast club came out on 10/18! This episode features our group A podcast group. They talked about book/movie reviews and if they could have any superpower, what it would be and why. We were joined by Valley News, where they interviewed some of our students and why they joined the podcast club. Keep an eye out for that article! Our next episode comes out next Friday, 10/25. All of the episodes can be found here. Feel free to like, share, and subscribe. Happy listening!"

You can find the podcast channel here, where new episodes are released on Friday mornings.

Weather Reminder Weather Reminder

As temperatures start to drop, especially in the mornings, a quick reminder - students will be expected to be outdoors prior to the start of school and during recess if the temperature "feels like" 15 degrees or higher. At LMS, we believe that fresh air and sunshine (even when it's chilly) is a valuable part of a positive school day, and we strive to get students at least a small amount of time outside for our students. Please remind students to dress accordingly, and thanks for your help with this.

Pick-up & Drop-off Pick-up & Drop-off

Thank you again for all the drivers and the cooperation to get folks in and out of our car loop safely and efficiently. Please try to pull up as far as possible when picking up and/or dropping off. Students are welcome to get out of cars anywhere along the sidewalk up to the access road.

Also, please remember that there is no adult supervision prior to 7:05. Please refrain from dropping students off prior to that time, as this is a safety issue. Thank you for your attention to this.

WOOD SHOP RACE DAY!!!

5th and 6th graders have worked hard for several weeks to convert a simple block of wood into a superfast dragster. They learned some basic physics lessons about aerodynamics, friction, and drag before designing, shaping and painting their cars in preparation for the big race. students used some basic hand tools and a few power tools to create their masterpieces.

*

A bracket was created and students raced to the last one standing! Today's winners were:

5th Grade

1st Place - Bailey Shoemaker-Kiess

2nd Place -Jayce Young

3rd Place - Isabella Pentella

6th Grade

1st Place - Kevin Purcell

2nd Place - Claire Cox

3rd Place - John Stone

*

The top 3 from each class will get to race their cars again at the end of the school year to find out who has the fastest car in the school! Stay tuned to find out who that is!

LMS Student Council LMS Student Council

Student Council elections will be taking place this week, and we will announce our new Student Council members in the next LMS Express. Being a part of the Student Council is an opportunity for students to experience a leadership role, and have more of a "say" as to what activities happen and how to enhance the student experience. Plus, it's fun!

Many thanks to Ms. Bethany Averine, one of our many excellent paraeducators at LMS, for running the Student Council again this year.

LMS Field Hockey LMS Field Hockey

The LMS field hockey team ended the season with 9 wins, 2 ties, and zero losses. Everyone worked extremely hard with nearly every player scoring a goal , and Taegan Schurk as goalie letting in a mere 5 goals the entire season. Great job Ladies!!

Halloween at LMS (No Costumes) Halloween at LMS (No Costumes)

While it's not a popular decision with many of our students, we will not be allowing costumes for Halloween this year. Costumes are a distraction to the routine of the school day, and that is of course not in line with the educational experience that we look to provide our students with on a daily basis. In addition, not all students have the means to acquire a costume that they may wish to wear. We try to avoid inequities such as this whenever possible, and this is one of those avoidable inequitable situations. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

We encourage those that will be dressing up to gather for a fun Halloween Night at the Lebanon Fire Department Halloween Event:

Come visit the Lebanon Fire Department during our annual Halloween Open House on Thursday, October 31st, from 5 pm to 8 pm on Colburn Park in downtown Lebanon. There will be food, candy, and more for all. It's a great chance for you and your family to enjoy a safe trick-or-treating environment and meet your Lebanon Firefighters!

(I would like to name the elephant in the room that I, Mr. Harkins, will be wearing a costume of some sort on Halloween for the PTO fundraiser. Please know that I will be strategic in my costume wearing so as to limit disruption to our normal school day.)

LISTEN Holiday Baskets LISTEN Holiday Baskets

The LISTEN Center is now accepting applications for the 2024 Holiday Baskets.

This year, holiday baskets will consist of three (3) winter clothing items and a 50-dollar grocery gift card. The online registration link will be available beginning September 30th.

All applicants will first be added to an interest list in the order that their registrations are received. From this list, households will be matched with sponsors. Completing this application does not guarantee you will receive a Holiday Basket.

LISTEN can only guarantee you will receive a Holiday Basket once you are matched with a sponsor. A LISTEN staff member will notify you once your household is matched with a sponsor.

At that time, you will receive details on how and when to pick up your Holiday Basket. This year, the Holiday Baskets will be distributed early to mid-December.

Click here to apply for a LISTEN Holiday Basket.

If you or someone you know would be interested in sponsoring a Holiday Basket, please click here, or share that link with them. And thank you!
