Classroom Spotlight : Science in Flight!
Our classrooms were recently buzzing with excitement as students witnessed the incredible life cycle of the butterfly firsthand! We hosted the entire transformation, starting with tiny larvae and chrysalises, and watched as beautiful butterflies hatched right before our eyes. Students learned so much about metamorphosis, growth, and change. The best part? We celebrated the end of this amazing journey by releasing our fully-hatched butterflies outdoors, giving them their wings while reinforcing the powerful lessons of science!

Parenting with Purpose Insights: The Power of Conscious Discipline
Connect & Grow: Conscious Discipline at Home
At Wells, we believe strengthening our family-school connection is key to student success. Since we use the Conscious Discipline framework in all our classrooms, we want to empower you with simple, supportive tools you can use at home! Each month, this section will provide clear, positive parenting tips designed to help your child master social-emotional skills, manage big feelings, and continue their amazing growth journey in a warm, connected way. These simple strategies promote calm and build the secure relationships essential for your child's success.
Here are three ways to put Conscious Discipline to work in your family:
Be a STAR (Smile, Take a deep breath, And Relax): Before responding to your child's upset, take a quick break! Teaching your child (and yourself!) to take a deep breath models self-control and helps both of you move from a state of upset to a state of composure. You can even make a ritual of it by having a designated "Safe Place" in your home.
I Love You Rituals: These are simple, connecting, playful activities—like singing a song, reciting a rhyme, or doing a special handshake—that take less than two minutes. Doing a ritual when you drop them off or after a long day fills your child's emotional cup and prevents misbehavior.
Use the School Family Language: Try shifting from saying "No running!" to telling them what to do: "Use your walking feet." This helps your child know the expected behavior. When you ask them to use their "listening ears" or "safe body," you are using the same language they hear from their teachers all day!
MEET OAKLEY - Our New Furry Friend 🐾🐶
Get ready to meet the newest, furriest member of the Wells family: Oakley! This sweet Chocolate Lab will be spending time in our building as a supportive presence for our students. Oakley's job is to provide a gentle and comforting companion, helping every child feel calm, happy, comfortable, and cared for throughout the school day. He's here to do what dogs do best—share unconditional warmth! If your child comes home talking about a gentle dog who listens well, you know they've shared a special moment with Oakley!
