Winter Weather Cancellations
We are entering that time of year when we might encounter wintry weather. We will use our messaging system to alert our learning community when we need to close school. We will also post on our social media accounts and TV news stations. We will work to alert families by 6:30 AM if school will be closed.

IMPACT ROOM
We are excited about the incorporation of our Impact Room—a safe, supportive space designed to foster positive growth and help students build essential life skills. For the past two years, the Impact Room has been in full force. This space encourages students in developing the tools they need to thrive both in and outside the classroom. Students gain confidence and build strong foundations for success. Parents might ask, "What happens when a student goes to the Impact Room?" or "Why might a student go to the Impact Room?"
.
The district sees the Impact Room as a proactive piece to help students with behavior, to calm down, to prepare an apology, and create a plan to be successful. Each visit looks different and there are many different strategies utilized depending upon the student's needs. When a student enters the Impact Room they are given choices and an opportunity to reset and refocus . The Impact Room gives them the space they need to de-escalate on their own. When the student is ready Mrs. Bell will guide the student to take ownership, practice skills and make a plan to be successful. When they come to the Impact Room students are not "in trouble". In fact, we see the Impact Room as a way to keep students out of trouble.
Connected to the Impact Room is a sensory room. A sensory room can be used by students to take a break as a way to develop self-management skills, improve focus and regulate emotions. This room can be used by any of our students. After a few weeks of getting to know the students, the classroom teacher & Mrs. Bell may create daily built in breaks for the student making sure to prevent a student from missing large chunks of learning. Students are very predictable and thrive off consistency. The sensory room provides this predictability and consistency that help children feel and be successful.
Even five minutes in this room allows the student to walk back to class and finish their lesson with a fresh mind and attitude.
We look forward to seeing the positive impact this space will continue to have on our school community!
Congratulations!
Congratulations to our very own Lillyanne Pickens (8th grader) who tried out and earned a spot on the Harrisonville High School Winter Guard team. We are excited for her to get to practice and perform at the high school level over the next several months.
