SEL THEME FOR JANUARY: PERSEVERANCE
Perseverance means not giving up and keep trying even when something is hard, difficult, or takes a long time, like learning to ride a bike or finish a tough puzzle. It's about having the strength to keep going, working through obstacles, and learning from mistakes until you reach your goal, showing grit and determination.
In Jabari Jumps, Jabari has just finished his swimming lessons and swim test. He thinks that he is ready to jump off the diving board now. He knows that he is good at swimming and jumping, so this is the next step. Jabari gets a little nervous about jumping off the diving board, but his patient dad is there to help him know when he is ready.
Lou is brave about many things. When her friends start using a tall tree as a “pirate ship”, Lou isn’t so sure about climbing the tree. She’s never climbed a tree before and doesn’t want to. She comes up with lots of excuses for why she can’t join her friends, but in the end she gives it a try.
In this story, one crocodile out of a family of crocodiles doesn’t like water. He loves to climb trees instead! He feels left out and sad that he doesn’t join his brothers and sisters when they are swimming, so he gives it another try. After he tries swimming with his family and he still doesn’t like it, something strange happens to him… He’s not really a crocodile! He is something else.

Coping skills are strategies that help us with uncomfortable feelings.
Community Connections
Dear Families,
I want to share a helpful resource: our local partners at the MetroWest Food Collaborative have created an easy-to-use website where food pantries, community meal sites, farmers markets and more are listed for our region. You’ll find flyers and calendars in English, Spanish and Portuguese, and you can search by town to see what’s available. MWFC

Our AMS actors are working hard under the direction of Mr. Langmeyer to bring this powerful historical production to the Little Theater. Performances will be held: January 23rd at 7:00 p.m. January 24th at 2:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m. The show explores the true stories of more than 250,000 children who were relocated from Eastern cities to the Midwest in the late 1800s and early 1900s. With themes of resilience, social responsibility, and belonging, the production reflects on the courage of young people and the impact one person can have on others. The show is rated G, appropriate for all ages, runs 1 hour and 15 minutes, and tickets are $10 cash.
