Miller Elementary Weekly Update
For the week of April 27th, 2026!
Hello Miller Families!
We hope everyone had an amazing week and spent some time enjoying the beautiful sunshine and warmer temps. This week, we celebrated our amazing Administrative Secretary, Erin Toler! Mrs. Toler greets many of our children at the doors each day, she answers many questions from children and families, and she helps to keep our school running with so many important behind the scene tasks! We all appreciate everything that Mrs. Toler does each day to help children, staff and families!
Our kindergarten classes have started the ABC countdown which is our celebration at the end of the year to make our final weeks filled with fun and excitement! Thank you for helping them have a few special items or outfits ready to go. Today was Disney Day and it was so fun to see all the shirts, costumes, Mickey ears and princess dresses. We had a blast today!
Preschool enjoyed our last Music with Ms. Abbey session this week and we enjoyed singing and dancing along to all her fun songs!
As a reminder we have a 4-day week ahead and NO SCHOOL on Friday, May 1st! It's hard to believe we are approaching our final week of April. These weeks are flying so quickly!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Assistive Technology Awareness Day!
We want to take the time to highlight National Assistive Technology (AT) Awareness Day on April 22nd! At Miller, we utilize assistive technology for many of our learners to help children gain a voice, express their wants and needs, enhance their hearing, enhance their mobility and to help children continue to gain more independence! What is Assistive Technology? Assistive Technology (AT) is any item, piece of equipment, software program or product system that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of people with disabilities. It is important to raise awareness about the use of AT in our classrooms, homes and within our community. Children at this young age will often ask questions about how these items work and why children or adults use them. Providing awareness and answers will better help them understand that with some accommodations and adaptations, we can create more independence and success for all!
Kindergarten Music Performances Tuesday, May 5th!
Dear Kindergarten Families,
Get ready for a joyful celebration of music! 🎶
On Tuesday, May 5, your child’s class will be sharing a special daytime performance at Miller Gymnasium during their scheduled time. Throughout the year, students have been exploring many musical ideas in class, and this program will highlight some of their favorite songs and activities. You can expect upbeat music, fun movement, and plenty of smiles as students showcase what they have been learning. We are so excited to share this musical moment with you!
Performance Schedule:
- 9:30 AM – Mrs. Kidwell, Mrs. Verhotz AM & Mrs. Smerkar
10:05 AM – Mrs. Forster, Mrs. Buettin & Mrs. Sabulsky
1:45 PM – Mrs. Yonally, Ms. Heyman & Mrs. Verhotz PM
2:30 PM – Mrs. Gallucci & Mrs. Haughey
For the performance, children are welcome to dress up a little to make the day feel extra special. Nice shirts with shorts or pants for boys, and skirts or dresses for girls, are great options. Of course, the goal is simply for students to feel comfortable and proud—there is absolutely no pressure to purchase anything new. Please have your child wear whatever helps them feel their best for this celebration.
On May 5, please plan to arrive at Miller School just before your child’s scheduled performance time. After the program concludes, families will be asked to exit the building through the lower exit, where signs will guide you. If you plan to have your child go home with you after the performance, please sign them out at the exit table before leaving.
I look forward to sharing this wonderful program of music, movement, and your child’s enthusiasm for learning. Thank you for supporting the arts and celebrating the hard work of our young musicians! 🎵
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me anytime.
Warmly,
Dr. Iriarte kiriarte@aurora-schools.org
Important Message from Craddock Principal
I am really excited to meet with the parents of all my amazing incoming 1st graders on Thursday, April 23rd, at 5:30 p.m. in the Craddock gym! This is a parent-only event, and I look forward to giving you a glimpse into what 1st grade looks like, as well as assuring you of all we do to make the transition a smooth one.
As we begin the process of wrapping up the current school year, we can't help but begin to think about next year. Part of that process is the formulation of class placements. Class placements are constructed in a very particular manner, using data and input from the educational experts at Miller, Craddock and Leighton. We take many factors into consideration when making these decisions and feel it is very important that your input is utilized as well. You know your child best!
Although I cannot guarantee specific teacher requests will be granted due to a number of different factors, it is important to have as much information about each child as possible before the class list-making process gets underway. We recognize that parents/guardians are a valuable source of information to add to our knowledge about what works best for each child. Your information will be very helpful as we determine your child's placement for the 26-27 school year.
If you are interested in having some input, please fill out the following information and submit this form by Friday, May 8, 2026. Any feedback received after that date may not be able to be considered. You are also welcome to call or set up an appointment to speak with me specifically about your thoughts and concerns. I can be reached by email at kmstewart@aurora-schools.org or by phone at 330-562-3175.
Thank you!
Kim Stewart

Planned Absences & Attendance Notification Letters
It's that time of year when we begin to have students who meet the benchmarks of notifying families about excessive absences. If your child meets the threshold of missed hours, a letter must be sent from the school alerting you. Please also be reminded that it doesn't matter whether the absences are excused or unexcused. We have to track the hours missed regardless of the reason and communicate to you when benchmarks have been met.
This is also the time of year that planned absences often get scheduled. We have attached our planned absence form and policy. Please make sure you read through this important message and understand that planned absences and absences due to illness all count for missed hours. If you have any further questions, please let me know!
Miller Attendance & Transportation Reporting Form
In all our Elementary Buildings, we utilize a Google Form to report attendance, late arrival, early dismissal, and change of transportation such as switching from a bus rider to office pick-up!
To report an absence or change your child to a car rider or bus rider, please click the button below or scan the QR code magnet that we will pass out at Open House. This can be done from any device and your reply will be sent immediately to our secretary, Mrs. Toler.
If your child will be absent, you will use this form to report the absence along with the reason for the absence. We are working really hard to reduce the amount of phone calls, emails, or notes that we receive. We ask that you reserve those modes of communication for emergencies only. Thank you in advance for your help and let us know if you have any questions at all!
