A Message from Your Principal Team
Dear Washington Families,
This year, we’re fortunate to enjoy three full weeks of learning before Winter Break, only two more to go, and we have a variety of events and activities planned to keep our students engaged. Our Winter grade-level performances are underway, with younger grades performing next week. Please check the school calendar for dates and details.
As the colder weather settles in, we kindly remind families to send students to school dressed warmly. Winter coats, hats, gloves, and extra layers help keep students comfortable and safe during outdoor activities, including recess.
If your family needs support with warm clothing, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we are here to help.
For everyone’s safety, please continue to follow our designated traffic patterns during pick-up and drop-off. Your cooperation helps ensure a smooth and secure process for all students, staff, and families. If you have any questions about arrival or dismissal procedures, feel free to contact our office.
Please stay warm and be safe. Go Eagles!
Warmly,
Alfredo Belanger, Principal
Antonio Ramos, Asst. Principal

What is happening at Washington?
All School Singalong 12/19/2025
Our winter singalong is Friday 12/19 at 1pm in the gym. This Sing along is our annual assembly to celebrate the season as a whole school. Parents are welcome to attend, provided that there is space in the gym. Note that the focus of the singalong is students, so if we run out of room we will make sure we prioritize having enough space for students to sit and sing together. Parents, if you choose to visit, we can't promise that you'll get a chair, but we CAN promise that if you're there you'll get to see Frosty, Rudolph, and a couple of other familiar characters! Parents, also please remember that, just as you do every time you visit school, for safety reasons you'll need to sign in at the office first.
Too sick for school?
Remember being a kid and not wanting to go to school? Whether because a throat is sore or feelings are hurt, when kids regularly miss school, we should all take note: Here’s why: Besides signaling that there’s an issue, those absences – whether excused or not – add up. Students can fall behind -- quickly. If something is keeping a child you know from getting to school, there’s help. Speak with your child’s school, or visit every-day-matters.org.
State Academic Testing around the corner (repeat)
Woodburn School District is committed to preparing every learner with academic knowledge and skills necessary for success beyond high school. Oregon’s statewide assessments in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics are fully aligned to Oregon’s State Standards and provide students in grades 3-8 and 11, along with their families, one measure of academic achievement and growth. Assessment results identify your child’s strengths and areas for improvement in English Language Arts and Math. Each subject will be broken into categories and will show how well your child performed in each area. The assessments measure student learning on a scale that allows for comparisons across time.
While no single assessment can give a complete picture of your child’s progress, having your child take the statewide assessments provides educators and administrators with one source of information about what educational approaches are working and where additional resources may be needed. The data from state assessments helps inform district systems, supports and professional development for educators. Your child’s participation is important to ensure our schools receive the targeted resources they need to help all students succeed. Your child’s school will share your child’s scores with you at the end of the current school year or the beginning of the next to help support your child’s success as they move from grade to grade.
