Principal's Weekly Update
Week of May 12-16
Administrator's Message 🐾
Dear Wildcat Families,
Wow, your support for teacher appreciation week was amazing! Thank you for helping us recognize our hardworking teachers. We appreciate you!
We want to bring a concerning trend to your attention that involves students inserting metal objects into the Chromebook device’s charging port in an attempt to create sparks. This behavior appears to be linked to a dangerous trend circulating on TikTok. We strongly encourage you to speak with your child about the risks of following unsafe online trends and the importance of using school technology appropriately.
Below are some important updates regarding upcoming events, MAP testing, counseling and dance tickets.
-Ms. Rivera & Ms. Rockwell
Celebrating Our Community's Diversity
The cities of Fairfield and Suisun City are two of the most diverse communities in California. To honor that diversity, each week FSUSD will be sharing information about the cultures that make up our extra special learning community.
May 12, 2025 is Vesak, a holiday to commemorate the birth, enlightenment and death of Buddha. Celebrations include dances, poems, parades, processions, deep meditation, theatrical performances, and puppet shows.
BGW Happenings
Spring MAP Testing
This week, we will begin Spring MAP testing in English. These assessments, along with the California state tests, help us determine appropriate class placements and better support your student’s academic growth. Please take a moment to speak with your child about the importance of putting forth their best effort on these tests. Additionally, ensure that their Chromebooks are fully charged and ready for use each day of testing. Thank you for your continued support!
Operation Prevention
We are excited to share that our school is partnering with the National Guard this May to bring Operation Prevention to students in their PE classes. This initiative is designed to raise awareness and prevent substance abuse among youth, with a focus on the dangers of Fentanyl and Vaping—two issues currently impacting young people across the country.
The student presentation begins with an overview of how the brain works, including information on dopamine and adolescent brain development. We then explore how drugs affect the brain, laying the foundation for a deeper discussion about substances like opioids and Fentanyl. Many young people are simply unaware of these risks, and our goal is to equip them with knowledge that helps them make informed, safe choices.
Schedule of Presentations:
- Monday, May 12th: Ms. McLaughlin’s PE Classes
- Tuesday, May 13th: Mr. Merodio’s PE Classes
- Friday, May 16th: Ms. Fukuda’s PE Classes
Counseling Corner
Message from school counselor, Ms. Victoria Escobar:
I had the wonderful opportunity to visit with all your 8th graders yesterday during their PE classes. During my visit I again reviewed FSUSD graduation and A-G requirements, Career Technical Education Pathways ( CTE classes in high school), other options after high school, and the K-12 admission program offered at Solano Community College.
All students also had the opportunity to complete a final middle school self-reflection assignment to reflect on their academic achievement and goals for high school. I encourage you to review your child's self reflection assignment with them t o support their academic success. Students also participated in a group activity, where they presented to the class regarding high school grad & A-G requirements. I was very impressed with their hard work & group effort! Please review the links attached.
