February Coaches Corner

Happy Wednesday Coaches!

This week's resources center around John Hattie's Visible Learning research. John Hattie developed a way of synthesizing various influences in different meta-analyses according to their effect size. In his ground-breaking study Visible Learning he ranked 138 influences that are related to learning outcomes from very positive effects to very negative effects. Hattie found that the average effect size of all the interventions he studied was 0.40. Therefore he decided to judge the success of influences relative to this ‘hinge point’, in order to find an answer to the question “What works best in education?” Below are three resources on his research and strategies we can work with teacher to incorporate into their teaching.

We are looking forward to our regional coaches huddle next week! We hope everyone can join us on February 8th from 9:30 am to 11:30 am at the Pendleton IMESD office.

Regards,

Ayla, Beth, & Jennifer

“The aim is to get the students actively involved in seeking evidence: their role is not simply to do tasks as decided by teachers, but to actively manage and understand their learning gains.” John Hattie
