MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL BANKS
Hello Eagles,
We are excited to welcome you back to school! We hope you enjoyed your summer break. All students were emailed their schedules last week, along with a family-friendly version of their current progress toward graduation. This level of transparency aims to increase understanding and empower students to plan their next steps toward graduating.
We hope you've taken the time to review these documents and reflect on what you've accomplished and the work that lies ahead. We understand these documents may evoke a range of emotions - excitement, curiosity, and maybe a little anxiety. A myriad of feelings are expected, and allowing yourself to feel them is okay. You know that you are capable of working hard to accomplish your goals. You know that LMSA staff, administrators, and families are supportive. We know you can succeed.
We've filled almost all of our staffing vacancies to ensure that all our students will start the year with a certified teacher in every class. As some of you may know, each CPS candidate's onboarding process varies in length. We have a few candidates completing their onboarding process just in time for the start of the year. We are still hiring for the Social Science position the ALSC voted to open a few weeks ago. We are working to ensure that the position is staffed as quickly as possible, and those classes will be covered in the meantime.
We explicitly outlined a process for all students and families to follow if you notice something that needs to be addressed with your schedule. Schedules will only be changed to (1) ensure completion of CPS graduation requirements, (2) acknowledge credits earned over the summer, or (3) address scheduling irregularities (i.e., double lunch period, duplicate courses, etc.). Schedule change requests for preferences will NOT be honored (ex., lunch period, preferred teacher, etc).
Best Wishes,
Principal Banks

Teen Leadership Opportunities
Cradles to Crayons’ mission is to provide children across Chicagoland, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive - at home, at school and at play. We supply these items free of charge by engaging and connecting with different communities. Our TLC program provides teen leaders the opportunity to be a part of this mission and vision.
The Teen Leadership Corps is an opportunity for students in grades 9-12 to gain leadership skills through in-person service-learning projects, and then put those skills into practice by engaging their communities in product collections and by raising awareness about the need for and work of Cradles to Crayons. Our upcoming Fall session will run from September 25th through December 14th both virtually and at our Giving Factory located at 2500 W Bradley Place in Chicago.
The TLC program has three main components:
- Saturday volunteer sessions - TLC members can sign up for Saturday volunteer shifts and will volunteer to help assist Cradles to Crayons staff in running stations for Saturday volunteer shifts.
- Virtual Wednesday sessions in the late afternoon/evening. Twice a month, we meet virtually for one hour to provide leadership-related training such as a career panel, resume workshop, and public speaking session.
- Final project - each TLC member will complete a final project supporting Cradles to Crayons, which will be either hosting a collection drive or a fundraiser.
Here is the link to the application. The application deadline is 11:59PM on Friday, September 6th.
