AVA Family Update
January 19, 2025
Good morning AVA students and families,
I have one major announcement this week.
For many students, coming in for the February MCAS retests in Science were a requirement. In light of the success of the ballot question that removed MCAS as a graduation requirement, this is no longer the case. We will still be testing 10th graders in Math and ELA later this year (still required, just not as a state graduation requirement) and 9th graders in Science in June. I'll reach out to affected students next week.
No school tomorrow. We'll see folks on Tuesday. Thank you for your time.

Electric Boat Presentation
AHS Guidance will be hosting a visit with the Electric Boat company on campus on Friday, January 24 at 1:00 PM. They will discuss their summer internship opportunity, as well as their employment opportunities. This is a great opportunity for seniors considering work right after graduation, and AVA seniors are welcome! Please register for this session here.
MTTI Presentation
AHS Guidance is also excited to be hosting an admissions representative from MTTI Technical School on our campus on Wednesday, January 22 at 1:00 PM. The representative will discuss all of the programs MTTI offers as well as application and financial aid information. AVA juniors and seniors are welcome to this session, and we strongly encourage seniors who are thinking about trade school to attend. Please register here.
FAFSA Night Event (Last call!)
Final reminder: For college-bound AVA seniors, the AHS Guidance Department will be hosting a FAFSA (financial aid) Night event next Thursday, January 23rd from 4pm to 7pm. Financial aid experts from Wheaton, Providence College, Roger Williams, Assumption, and AAA will be present to assist students and families. AVA seniors and families are welcome, and pizza dinner will be served starting at 4:30p as well. Registration is required for this event, so please sign up here.
As always, please feel free to email me (nng@attleboroschools.com) with any questions, comments, or concerns. Have a lovely long weekend!
