A Note from Mrs. Mathe
Husky Families,
I am so excited to share some wonderful news with you—Hines Elementary has officially achieved Level 1 Certification in the High Reliability Schools (HRS) framework! This accomplishment reflects the hard work of our staff, the support of our families, and most importantly, the dedication of our students.
Level 1 focuses on creating a safe, supportive, and collaborative culture—a foundation we believe is essential for all learning and growth. Achieving this milestone shows that as a community, we are committed to building the best possible environment for our Huskies.
Below, you’ll find two resources to help you celebrate alongside us:

We are proud of this recognition and look forward to continuing our HRS journey together! Thank you for always supporting our school—you are an important part of our success.
HRS Press Release
Hines Elementary School achieves Level 1 certification in Marzano High Reliability Schools™ Bloomington, Ind.,
[August 12, 2025]
Hines Elementary School is pleased to announce the achievement of Level 1 certification in Marzano High Reliability Schools™. Level 1 certification means Hines Elementary School has created a “Safe, Supportive, and Collaborative Culture,” which is the foundation for every level that follows. Without such a culture, student achievement will be compromised. Day-to-day school operations are addressed and evaluated in Level 1.
The high reliability school (HRS) program was created by Marzano Resources to help transform schools into organizations that take proactive steps to ensure student success. Using a research-based five-level hierarchy, along with leading and lagging indicators, educators learn to assess, monitor, and confirm the effectiveness of their schools.
This framework, based on 50 years of educational research, defines five progressive levels of performance that a school must master to become an HRS—where all students learn the content and skills they need for success in college, careers, and beyond.
“As you move through the levels, it represents a complete transformation in how schools are run,” says CEO Robert J. Marzano.
Schools must collect data and validate their performance to climb each level of the hierarchy. Certification is determined by Marzano Resources analysts in cooperation with school data teams.
Using the HRS framework and indicators, schools can drive sustained, positive, and significant impacts on student achievement by synthesizing multiple complex initiatives into one harmonious system.

Friday Highlight Video
Every week, Mrs. Halbrook, one of our 4th grade teachers, compiles the pictures taken on campus in a highlight video. The students look forward to watching it each week and seeing themself on the big screen! Click below to view this week's video.
Student Spotlight
We are excited to introduce a new section in The Hines Herald called Student Spotlight! This feature will celebrate the amazing achievements, acts of kindness, and positive contributions of our Huskies both inside and outside of school. In this section, we will highlight students who have gone above and beyond—whether it’s reaching a personal goal, helping others, or making a difference in the community. We can’t wait to share these inspiring stories and honor the incredible ways our students shine!
HINES SHINES
We are excited to launch a new section in our newsletter, Hines Shines, where we celebrate students who go above and beyond in showing kindness, leadership, hard work, and exceptional behavior and exemplifying our Husky HOWL. Breakfast and Lunch Menus
If you would like to know what is being served in the Hines cafe, visit our website at hines.conroeisd.net and click "Food Menus" .
Lunch Times
Thank you for your patience as we learn and teach our Huskies the procedures for lunch time. Lunch visitors will begin August 25th.
Hines Cafeteria
The meal menus are posted on the Hines Website monthly to allow you to review menu choices. Please review meal options with your child if they plan to purchase breakfast or lunch. The cafeteria is not able to alter the meals to meet children's specific food preferences. If your child has food allergies, the cafeteria requires doctor's documentation to accommodate allergies. The link to the form can be found on the Child Nutrition website under the FAQ section. If you have any questions, you may contact our cafeteria manager, Donna Carrington at dlcarrington@conroeisd.net.
Lunch Visitors
Looking ahead to next week, I’m excited to announce that we will begin welcoming lunch visitors starting Monday. We know how much our students enjoy having family members join them during lunchtime, and we’re delighted to provide this opportunity. Please remember to check in at the front office and follow our visitor guidelines (pictured below) to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone. As a reminder, if someone not listed on your child's emergency contact information is coming to lunch, please send an email to contacthines@conroeisd.net with the visitor's first and last name (as it appears on their ID) so the front office knows who to expect.
Feedback Requested
We Value Your Feedback!
At Hines Elementary, we’re always looking for ways to improve our events and experiences for our families. Please take a moment to share your thoughts about Meet the Teacher, Husky Huddle, and Hines 101. Your feedback helps us make future events even better!
Safety Reminder for Afternoon Dismissal-
For the safety of all our Huskies, please do not pull up along Lexington in your car to pick up your child during afternoon dismissal. If your child is designated as a walker or biker, they should walk or bike home as intended.
When cars pull up along the curb to pick up students, it not only creates traffic congestion but also makes it difficult for our staff to confirm that students are leaving with the correct adult.
Thank you for helping us keep dismissal safe and smooth for everyone!

Transportation Changes
If you need to change your child's transportation from their typical way home, please notify the school before 2:00 pm by submitting a transportation change on the transportation change app on your parent portal for 1 DAY CHANGES.
If you need to make a permanent change, or for multiple days, please continue to email contacthines@conroeisd.net. You may copy their child's teacher, however, they are not always able to check their email prior to dismissal, so be sure to include contacthines@conroeisd.net as well. Below is an example of what a change of transportation email should include.
- Child's first and last name
- Teacher/grade
- How they will go home, including what location for biker/walker
- What is the duration of this change (just today, for the week, permanent change)
- The email address that sends the change must match the email we have on file for the guardian or send a photo of your ID along with the email
Example of email:
- My son, John Smith in Mr. Hines 4th grade class will be a walker today only. He is a FRONT walker. From: Mom Smith
The front office will email you back once the change has been received either through the app or by email. Thank you for your help with this.
The map below illustrates the names of our biker/walker locations, front, middle and back.
