With the NCAA Men's & Women's basketball tournaments getting underway this upcoming week, it seems natural to highlight one of college basketball's very best to lead this week's edition of BricksCenter. Pat Summitt served as head coach for the women's basketball team at the University of Tennessee for 38 years ... winning 1,098 games and 8 national championships. Her teams never had a losing season and made the NCAA tournament every year. In order to accomplish these things, clearly the Lady Vols had talent, but they also had mental toughness - instilled in them by their Hall of Fame coach. Here is one of my favorite Pat Summitt quotes:
"By doing things when you are too tired, by pushing yourself farther than you thought you could - like running the track after a two-hour practice - you become a competitor. Each time you go beyond your perceived limit, you become mentally stronger."
With the spring sports season upon us ... and the last quarter of school starting on Monday, mental toughness is something that will be necessary to keep all of us focused on being our best as the year winds down!
NCAA Tournament play begins Tuesday ... BricksCenter starts right now!
In need of some Brickie gear for the Spring Sports season?

Track & Field
On Thursday night, the Brickies were back at Lambert Fieldhouse on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette for another Hoosier State Relays (HSR) Qualifier! If you recall, Hobart was just there last Saturday for a number of individual events. On Thursday, there were more opportunities for individuals to compete, but it also offered a chance to RUN SOME RELAYS ...and that baton was FLYING around the 200m indoor track!! WOW!!
For the girls, junior Millie Massey earned a top 10 finish in the 3200m run ...a FAB 4 freshman crew - Layla Massey, Khloe Reyes, Sydney Reyes & Ana Medellin - also notched a top 10 finish in the 4x800m relay ... and the Distance Medley Relay, where competitors run a 1200-400-800-1600, raced to a TOP 5 finish!! The Lady Brickie DMR was composed of juniors Cassie Cohen & Aalliah Otero and freshmen Ella Lopez & Lilliana Lopez and they not only placed 1st in their timed section, but also ran a TOP 10 time in the last 25 years of Hobart girls track!! AWESOME WORK WORK WORK LADIES!!!
Also ... LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS!! Our guys were FANTASTIC on Thursday with 7 TOP 10 finishes in a fieldhouse that felt more like a sauna and featuring teams from Fort Wayne to Indianapolis in the house to compete! Sophomore Bryce Tolliver got things going placing 7th out of 28 total runners in the 55m hurdles! Hobart's 4x800m relay team consisting of seniors Nick Meagher, Dom Rivera & Brett Davis and junior Stephen Allande finished 8th overall ... and the boys DMR - seniors Kolin Gladney, Dane Homoky & Shearer and junior Durgon Click - came across the finish in 9th! The boys 4x200m relay was absolutely FLYING around Lambert Fieldhouse ...WON their heat ...earned a TOP 5 finish ...and raced to the 3rd fastest time in the last 25 years of Brickie Track!! HOLY COW!! The Brickie 4x2 crew was made up of Shearer, classmates Jaelen Williams & Kael Schlosser and junior Adrian Stojkoski. In the individual events, BOTH Brickie throwers - seniors Patrick O'Connor (6th) & Luke Juris (8th) - found themselves in the TOP 10 of the shot put and Schlosser leaped to an 8th place finish in the long jump!
Overall, it was definitely a GREAT DAY TO BE A BRICKIE!! WHAT A PERFORMANCE!!
