Cape's Mission & Vision
Vision: We believe that the most promising strategy for achieving the mission of Cape Elementary is to develop our capacity to function as a professional learning community.
Message from Mrs. Sund and Mrs. Gurgal
Dear Cape Families,
What a wonderful start to the 2026–2027 school year! It has been exciting to welcome our students back to campus and see our classrooms filled with learning, laughter, and Seahawk spirit. We are grateful for the patience, support, and partnership of our families as we have settled into our routines and kicked off another great year at Cape Elementary.
This year brings a new administrative team to Cape, although one of us may be a familiar face! Mrs. Sund has proudly served as the Assistant Principal at Cape Elementary for the past 12 years and has now transitioned into the role of Principal. She is honored to continue serving the students, staff, and families of a school community that has been home to her for so many years.
We are also excited to welcome Mrs. Gurgal as Cape's new Assistant Principal. Mrs. Gurgal comes to Cape with several years of experience as a school administrator and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team.
Together, we are excited to lead Cape Elementary and are committed to supporting our students, staff, and families while continuing the traditions and high expectations that make Cape such a special place. We are looking forward to a wonderful year of learning, growth, and partnership!
As we begin the year, we would also like to share a few important reminders:
🎂 Birthday Treats
We love celebrating our Seahawks! If you choose to send a birthday treat for your child’s class, all treats must be store-bought. Birthday treats are distributed and enjoyed during the class’s regularly scheduled lunch time, so we recommend small, individual treats such as mini cupcakes that can easily be passed out. Please do not send cakes, pizza, or other items that need to be cut or divided.
Please be sure to send enough treats for every student in the class. School staff are unable to cut or divide treats if there are not enough for all students. Your child’s teacher can provide you with the current number of students in the class before purchasing treats.
🧡💙 Show Your Cape & HOUSE Spirit!
Wednesdays are HOUSE Spirit Days — students are encouraged to wear their HOUSE colors or HOUSE spirit wear.
Fridays are Cape Spirit Days — students are encouraged to wear their Cape Elementary shirts and show their Seahawk pride!
🍎 Breakfast & Morning Arrival
Breakfast and lunch are FREE for all Cape Elementary students.
Breakfast is served each morning from 8:20–8:35 a.m. Students who would like to eat breakfast at school should arrive during this time so they have enough time to get their breakfast, eat in the cafeteria, and report to class.
Our late bell rings at 8:40 a.m., and students should be in their classrooms and ready to learn when the bell rings. Arriving on time helps students start their day successfully and ensures they don’t miss important announcements shared on our morning news or valuable instructional time.
🐝 A Great Year Ahead!
We are incredibly excited about the year ahead and all that our Seahawks will accomplish. Thank you for trusting us with your children and for being such an important part of our Cape family. The partnership between home and school makes a tremendous difference in the success of our students.
Here's to a year of learning, growing, and Bee-lieving we can SOAR!

Greetings from PE!
Well, it's been an unusual start to the school year from the PE Department. Construction on our new pavilion is underway, so we have been conducting our classes inside! We have been focusing on exercises, indoor games and a fitness competition!
While this is just temporary, it has been fun interacting and learning with the kids in a new atmosphere!
