Service Hours Service Hours

The holidays are an important time for giving back in our community and we have many local events for our students to volunteer. Holiday markets at elementary schools, making cards for senior centers, assisting special needs students at the LO parade, or walking in a fashion show are just a few of the ways our students can spread holiday cheer. The November and December service opportunities newsletter was sent to students today and can be found at the bottom of the LOHS Service Learning website under the drop down “NOVEMBER/DECEMBER OPPORTUNITIES.”

College Admission visits continue this week with Northern Michigan University and the Air National Guard and Michigan Army National Guard will also be on campus during lunches.

Grand Valley State University will be conducting onsite admission interviews November 19. If a senior would like to be added to the list, please email CareerCenter@lok12.org or stop by to see Ms. Pavelich to learn more about the process.

Senior Interviews Senior Interviews

The Career Center coordinated the first quarter Senior Interviews in October. As part of the senior level Personal Finance class, each student participates in a panel interview, prepared with a portfolio, ready to discuss their skills, current education and plans for the future. This is not only a graduation requirement, but an important life skill for our students. Approximately 165 seniors participated in their interviews with 62 Lake Orion community volunteers. We are so thankful for the volunteers who give of their time to make the interview an authentic and meaningful experience for our students.

If this is something YOU might be interested in participating in as a volunteer, please email careercenter@lok12.org to be added to the list. There is no volunteer preparation required. All students are granted the same experience so you will be given a set of questions and interview process directions. The next interviews take place in January and March 2026.

No Vape November is Back!

This month, NOCC is bringing No Vape November to Lake Orion High School! Throughout November, we’ll be in the cafeteria during lunch with fun games, prizes, and activities to help students learn more about vaping, and why staying vape-free matters for their health and their future.

Our first No Vape November activity will be at all lunches on Friday, November 7. We’re excited to bring new ways to learn, connect, and celebrate healthy choices. Together, let’s make this November a breath of fresh air!

You can follow along on NOCC’s Facebook page for information that parents need to know about vaping, its impact on mental health, and resources for quitting. Visit our website for more information and additional resources!

Reporting Absences and Early Dismissals

LOHS utilizes School Dismissal Manager (SDM) for reporting absences and early dismissals. It is accessible through SDM Website or smartphone app - no need to call the school.

  • First time users must sign in to SDM using the welcome email sent to families at the end of August. Email Ms. Humes for assistance.
  • When signing your child out early, please remind them to check their email for the SDM confirmation.
  • They will need to show the SDM confirmation email to their teacher and the front door attendance clerk when leaving.
  • There’s no need for parent/guardian to come into the building once permission has been given via SDM or phone call.

If further assistance is needed:
  • for SDM, contact Ms. Humes at patricia.humes@lok12.org or 248-693-5420 option 1.
  • for the early dismissal line, please contact Jennifer Ply at 248-693-5420 option 2.
