EXCITING NEWS - CTE CAPITAL ANNEX GRANT
As we continue to support students in connecting their learning to our Portrait of a Graduate, we regularly revisit our programs and course offerings to ensure they are preparing students for life beyond high school. Over the past several years, we have worked to organize coursework into pathways that help students connect what they are learning in the classroom to their interests, future goals, and the skills they will need to navigate their next steps.
Our goal is for every student to graduate with the ability to confidently communicate their educational story: what they have learned, the skills they have developed, and how these experiences connect to their plans for the future.
The CTE Capital Annex Grant recently awarded (3.1 Million Dollars) to Newburyport Public Schools represents a significant step forward in this work. This investment will help us expand our pathways programs, creating more opportunities for students to explore their interests, develop practical skills, and make meaningful connections between their learning at NHS and the opportunities that await them after graduation.

Again, a big thank you to Dr. Erin Hobbs for the work she put into writing out CTE Annex Grant application. Additionally, thank you to all of the community members part of the steering team which provided guidance on the most-appropriate pathways for us to focus on given student interest and projected future career trends for our region.
Last, I want to acknowledge the NEF for getting us launched with the Media Lab. During the summer site visit from DESE, the team wasn't only impressed with the media space but they recognized how Newburyport was serious in its efforts to transform the learning experience for students. This definitley supported our case.

COLLEGE AND CAREER BOOT CAMP PILOT
Limited Space
As part of our ongoing work to help students connect their learning to future interests and opportunities, the NHS College & Career Center is launching a College & Career Boot-Camp pilot program. These lunchtime sessions will provide students with individualized guidance and hands-on support as they explore postsecondary options, develop a personalized roadmap, and identify next steps toward their future goals.
Students will have opportunities to explore colleges, trade programs, gap years, military options, dual enrollment, and employment pathways using resources such as SchoolLinks, the Career Guidance Network, and The College Tour.
Juniors will also have support with the college application process, including getting started with the Common Application and brainstorming ideas for their college essays.
The pilot will offer five sessions between January and February, with a special focus on juniors, while remaining open to students in all grades. The goal is to help students explore their options, ask questions, and take meaningful steps toward a plan that reflects their individual interests, strengths, and aspirations.

Kids for Kenya Event
I’d like to commend all of the students and staff who participated in Saturday’s Kids for Kenya Field Day at the Bresnahan School. Special thanks to Anna Pervier for the time, organization, and planning she put into making this a special experience for everyone in attendance.
I’d also like to recognize the Boys Soccer Team, the Global Citizen Program, and the National Art Honor Society for their participation, along with staff members Shawn Bleau, Amy Heath, Mary Rakoski, and Deb Szabo.
The Field Day was a strong example of teamwork and community coming together to support a worthy cause.
Mock Trial Team
What a turnout for the Mock Trial Team this morning in Ms. Martin’s room. The team is gearing up for another run at the state level, and it was great to see so many students attend today’s review of the case they’ll be arguing. The group is a great blend of returning and new members, which will undoubtedly help ensure the continued success of the program. Good luck to the team as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Cheer Team
Congratulations to the NHS Cheer Team on placing 2nd this past weekend at the "Claw Out Cancer Invitational." It has been awesome to see this team continue to grow, improve, and build on its success with each passing season. Their hard work is definitely paying off, and it’s exciting to see their progress. Way to go.
