Research consistently shows that arriving to school on time is crucial for student success across academic, social, and emotional domains.

📚 Academic Achievement

  • Chronic tardiness is linked to lower academic performance.

    • Students who are frequently late tend to miss important instructions, warm-up activities, and foundational learning that often happen at the beginning of the day.

    • Repeated tardiness contributes to gaps in knowledge, especially in subjects like math and reading.

  • A study by the National Center for Education Statistics found that even small amounts of lost instructional time add up, negatively affecting test scores and grades.

🧠 Behavior and Engagement

  • Late students are more likely to:

    • Feel disconnected from classroom routines.

    • Exhibit lower engagement and poorer behavior.

    • Experience higher levels of stress and anxiety, particularly if they walk into class already in progress.

👥 Social Impact

  • Arriving late can:

    • Disrupt peer relationships.

    • Lead to social stigma or embarrassment.

    • Prevent students from participating in morning social routines that help build classroom community.

⏰Students should be in their classrooms at 7:40 ready to start the day at 7:45⏰

We no longer experience car line backups during arrival or dismissal, ensuring that all students arrive on time, are dismissed promptly, and that both processes are safer and more efficient for everyone.

Just a few quick reminders:

✅It is dark in the mornings; please use the crosswalk when walking your children up to the door.

✅No cell phone use

✅Dismissal is over at 3:20. If you arrive late, please park and walk up to the office to get your child.

FESTA offers NARCAN Training at WISD: FESTA offers NARCAN Training at WISD:

The FESTA program will offer 2 NARCAN training sessions this semester at the WISD Board Room. One is for Teens and the other is for Adults. All attendees will receive a free Narcan Kit. Narcan, the brand name for the drug naloxone, is used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. It is a life-saving emergency medication that can rapidly restore normal breathing and consciousness in someone who has overdosed on opioids like heroin, fentanyl, oxycodone, and morphine. In the Teen session (ages 14+), a part of the training will be that students cannot self-carry Narcan in the school buildings as it is a medication, but Narcan is available in the Nurse's office.
