Hello Central School Community,

We are so excited to welcome you back on September 3rd! As a reminder, Friday September 4th is an early dismissal day (1:05pm), and Monday September 7th is Labor Day with school closed. Last week, you should have received an email regarding PickUp Patrol. Please complete your Default Plan in PickUp Patrol, if you have not already. In preparation for our first day, if the Default Plan has not been chosen, we will reach out to you. Please contact us if you have any issues with setting up your default plan. Please have your default plan complete by September 1.

Beginning this year, parents/guardians are able to report a student absence through Genesis. This will ensure a smoother process than calling the school and reporting your child absent. Directions are below! We will still accept calls/emails to the school as we transition. If you do not report a child's absence, you will receive an automatic phone notification like in years past.

Transportation will send direct communication to parents to notify of any late buses for AM/PM routes. As in the past, you will receive a text message indicating if a bus is late, but it will come from Transportation, not from Central School.

As a reminder, please send your child to school with a refillable water bottle and a snack daily. Please also see our dress code located at the bottom of this newsletter.

Last year, one of our foci was improving our chronically absent numbers as a school. I am so pleased to report that we no longer have that classification for this upcoming school year. I want to thank the community for helping us achieve this goal. There is no resting on our laurels however; we will continue to partner with the community to ensure students are in session as much as possible. We look forward to being in good standing regarding attendance in the years to come.

With the official start of the school year two days away, I want to wish all our faculty, staff, students, and parents/guardians a lovely school year. As always, my door is always open, I encourage you to reach out to me should you have any questions or concerns. Happy New School Year!

Please Note: This Newsletter contains important information, please read carefully.

Ready, Set, Belong: 5 Ways to Prepare for a Positive Start

Whether your child is entering elementary, middle, or high school, the start of a new school year brings a mix of excitement, anticipation, and sometimes a little uncertainty. While each stage of development presents unique experiences, there are a few universal strategies that can help students of all ages feel prepared, connected, and confident.

1. Get Back into a Routine
A week or two before school starts, begin returning to school-year routines. Younger children can practice bedtime and morning routines, while older students can reset sleep schedules and organize school materials.

2. Build a Sense of Belonging
Connecting with familiar peers can make returning to school feel easier. Plan a playdate for younger children or encourage older students to connect with friends before the first day.

3. Get Familiar with the School Routine
Help your child know what to expect. Younger children can practice drop-off, while older students can review schedules, transportation, locker combinations, or classroom locations.

4. Encourage Voice and Agency
Help your child practice speaking up, asking for help, and solving everyday problems. Talk through situations such as forgetting lunch, getting lost, missing the bus, or needing help. Older students can practice emailing a teacher or asking a question on their own.

5. Talk About Their Feelings
Make time to talk about excitement, worry, or uncertainty. Help your child make a simple plan, such as talking to a Trusted Adult, reaching out to a friend, or asking a teacher for help.

Important Information Important Information

Jackets in Gym 🧥

Mr. Knight, and Mr. Farrell, would like to remind all that they should bring their jackets to gym until Thanksgiving. Maximizing outside time is a priority before the cold winter months.

Daily Transportation Changes 🗃️

We know that changes happen. We also know that they can happen last minute. However, please know that we dismiss over 500 students a day in many different ways. We can accommodate changes in PickUp Patrol easily, but we do ask that calls to the office for transportation changes after PickUp Patrol closes, come in no later than 2:30pm. Please help us ensure the safety and secure dismissal of all our students.

Parking Lot Advisories 🚦

Please be advised that during arrival and dismissal the south parking lot (across from the church) is not accessible to parent pick up or drop off. Our buses must have a safe area to depart from and we cannot have additional traffic in this area. Please refrain from entering this parking lot during arrival and dismissal times. Please utilize the private transportation line for that purpose.

Private Transportation 🚗

Private Transportation operates at peak efficiency after a few weeks of school have passed. When parents/cars are recognized as regulars, the line moves much quicker. Thank you for your patience as we get acquainted with your vehicle/pickup person. Please note that the Private Transportation line moves much faster when the driver remains in the vehicle. If your child is capable of opening/closing their car door, sitting in their seat, and buckling in, please encourage them to do so. In this way, we can keep the line moving!

Transportation 🚌

Should a bus be late, please know that you will receive a notification from the Transportation Department.

Technology 💻

Our first through fifth grade students are so fortunate to have 1:1 Chromebooks at school. These devices are assigned to every child and will advance with the learner each year. Since students will have these devices for five years, we are encouraging our students to take care of their technology! In case a Chrome book is intentionally damaged, families will have to pay for repairs.

From time to time, teachers, mainly 4th and 5th grade, may assign homework assignments that require device access. In case your child needs a Chrome book at home, please contact (emonafis@wallpublicschools.org).

Our Technology teacher will ensure that your child gets a device to borrow for the 2026-2027 school year. The borrowed device must be returned by May 31st.
