Oakhurst Weekly
From the Principal
Hello, Oakhurst Families -
One of the (many) things that make Oakhurst such an amazing school is our family participation at school events and on field experiences so I want you to know that City Schools of Decatur requires all volunteers and chaperones to have a current background check on file. This is especially important for anyone who will be with students without a staff member present, and it ensures the safety of all students. Click here to read more about the process.

HAVE YOU COMPLETED THE ANNUAL UPDATE?
We have many families who have not yet completed CSD's Annual Data Update, and the deadline is September 30th. If we're the first school to reach 100% completion, the entire school will get extra recess (thank you, Principal Triplett!) - but we've got a ways to go!
Please make it a priority to complete this important update so we have all of your contact and student health information on hand.
Click the image below, and please reach out to Ms. Bragg with questions: jennifer.bragg@csdecatur.net.

CSD Reads Week: September 29th - October 8th
Join us in celebrating CSD Reads Week when we return from Fall Break!
Check out the CSD Decatur Reads Week flyer HERE and see below for Oakhurst events!
DUE TOMORROW (FRIDAY, 9/12)
The Oakhurst Birthday Book program gives you the opportunity to both honor your child on their birthday and help our library collection continue to grow. To honor your child with a birthday book donation, send $20 exact cash or check (made payable to Oakhurst Elementary School) by Friday, September 12. We welcome friends or other family members to participate in this program as well. Families are not limited to one book.
After receiving your donation, your child will choose a new library book during their birthday month during library time. We will affix a book dedication label to the inside of the book your child chooses, indicating that the book is donated in their honor to our library. We would like for you to write a special message that will be printed on the label.
Your child may keep the new book for two weeks before returning it to the library. This book checkout will be in addition to the regular library book(s). We’ll also send you a pic of your child with the book!
This form was sent home in your child's folder 2 weeks ago and will not be sent home again at any time this year. You may print one here. This form must be submitted, along with payment, by Friday, September 12th. August birthdays will be celebrated in September and June and July birthdays will be celebrated in May.
Oakhurst Gifted Program Recommendations
Each fall semester the Gifted review team looks at existing student data to discuss students’ needs and determine if further evaluation for gifted identification is needed. If you are interested in having the team discuss your child’s needs, you may complete a Recommendation for Review Form (found at the website below) and turn it in to the Gifted & Talented Specialist at your child’s school before Wednesday, October 1. No additional information is needed.
The Gifted & Talented Specialists for Oakhurst are Amanda Lockwood and Courtney Hartnett. For more detailed information about the review process and to obtain a copy of the Recommendation for Review Form, please contact the Gifted & Talented Specialist for your school at alockwood@csdecatur.net or visit the following website: https://www.csdecatur.net/our-district-5f/departments/teaching-and-learning/gifted-and-talented-services
Food Insecurity Request Form
Oakhurst families, please complete and submit this food insecurity request form if your student is experiencing food insecurity within the home and is in need of some supplemental weekend snacks.
The Decatur Education Foundation supplies Oakhurst with snack bags for any student in need. This request form will go directly to our school counselor, Ms. King, and she will send home a snack bag with your student every Friday. Please go through each week's snack bag to remove any snack you may not want your child to have due to allergy concerns, etc.
