THE BEAR ESSENTIALS
Week of February 3, 2025
Dear Bear Families,
While it wasn't exactly the way we planned it, our first week of semester two is in the books. Schedule changes are complete and students are settling into a new routine. As we mentioned last week, it is important for students to have a strong start to the semester. Whether a student is in all new classes or they have a similar schedule to last semester, grades reset and it is an opportunity for a fresh start. Semester one grades are finalized and now viewable on Parent Portal.
On Tuesday next week our 9th, 10th, and 11th graders will be participating in our winter Horizon testing. These tests serve as an opportunity for teachers and students to measure growth, as well a practice for the state-mandated tests coming in the spring. Please see below for more information.
We are really emphasizing the importance of attendance and punctuality to our students as we begin semester two. Please have a conversation with your student about this. Being on time and having good attendance are good habits to develop (or continue) because they are beneficial outside of school as well.
Have a great weekend and GO BEARS!
Mr. Reynolds, Mr. Hickey, Ms. Wojtowicz, & Mr. Schley

The Horizon Testing platform allows our 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students to take a test modeled after College Board’s PSAT 9, PSAT 10, and SAT tests. These tests mimic the state tests in number of questions, types of questions, timing, and digital format. We feel this is a big advantage to have our students go through this experience before the official tests in the spring. It also allows teachers and students to monitor growth.
Students that are testing can take some simple steps to prepare for their best possible performance on this test. Please remember the following steps to be ready for test day…
Get a good night’s rest
Eat a healthy breakfast
Make sure that your Chromebook is fully charged for test day
Be prepared to power off your cell phone and keep it put away during testing.
Give your best effort
All 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students are encouraged to arrive at school by 7:50 am on test day. This will allow students time to get to their testing location by 8:00 am. Test room assignments for students will be posted by Friday morning (1/31) outside of the principal’s office and in the cafeteria. Please remind your student to be aware of their testing location before test day.
12th grade students have a late arrival on test day. Seniors should arrive at RHS between 10:20 and 10:30 am on test day. Seniors should report directly to the cafeteria. Seniors should use this time to work on scholarships, FAFSA, job applications, college applications, etc.
Thank you for your partnership as we prepare for these tests next week.
Dress Code Reminders
Torsos must be covered during the school day. This means wearing shirts that cover the stomach, shoulder, and back. Crop tops, tube tops, shirts with spaghetti straps, and backless shirts need to be saved for after-school hours. Hats and keeping the hood up on a sweatshirt should also be saved for outside of school, as well.
