What's going on at Barge-Lincoln Elementary?
June 2026
It's June--Barge Updates for the end of the year!
What a busy place Barge has been this past month, as we have been swamped with state testing, reading benchmark testing, field trips, and end-of-year academic wrap-up.
We've exercised our learners' brains for literally soon-to-be 180 days and we are elated to give them some time off this summer. While we know summer can be long, there are plenty of activities within the city to keep the learners occupied.
Barge is hosting summer school and registration has closed.
If you registered, you received confirmation from the district.
Summer school goes from June 29-July 27th from 8am to 4pm.
*8am to 12pm is reading and math instruction.
*12-12:30pm is lunch.
*12:30pm-4pm is enrichment opportunities with STEAM.
If your child is not attending summer school, please keep your child(ren) busy by visiting:
*Public Libraries
*Local Parks
*City of Yakima Public Recreation Department
*YMCA
*City pools (new pool over at MLK Park by Adams Elementary)
Thank you to our 3rd-5th grade families, as well, for ensuring our intermediate age learners were prepared for state testing. Make-up testing continues until June 4th. The results of state testing will be shared in the Fall. We anticipate to see MANY kiddos pass!

Attendance Goal for YSD and Barge!
Both the district and Barge have attendance goals:
We want our students to attend 95% of their school year, which is 171 days of 180 possible.
Please help by:
- sending your child to school each day, unless they are running a fever or vomiting
- call the office if your child is out
- allow the school to determine if your child is too sick to be at school (sniffles, coughs, sore throats, tummy aches)
- pre-arranged absences are encouraged for missing more than 3 consecutive days
- send doctor notes if student was at an appointment
If you have questions about any of this, please reach the office for clarity at 573-5200.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Friendly Reminders:
As a friendly reminder, students are allowed to wear shorts, tank tops, and sandals to school when the weather permits. We do not encourage sandals without backs or straps, as there is a lot of asphalt and flip-flops and/or slides can cause be unsafe.
Spaghetti straps are NOT allowed, along with tops where the stomach is exposed.
If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to your principals or teachers for clarification.

BARGE is a SCHOOL of RECOGNITION!
BARGE is a SPOTLIGHT School with the RAVE Foundation & Seattle Sounders!
Highlight Video at WORLD CUP GAMES in Seattle...
As part of a RAVE Foundation initiative (Rave works with the Seattle Sounders and Seattle Reign professional soccer teams), they’re highlighting 52 schools in Washington State who have either been impacted by a RAVE mini-pitch(es) or have helped make them possible.
RAVE selected Barge as one of the schools that have either been impacted by RAVE fields or have been instrumental in the development and support of them. Barge-Lincoln Elementary is at the very top of their list---actually part of the STARTING 11, meaning the top 11 settings that have made an impact to a community for bringing soccer to their area!
There is a VIDEO and INTERVIEW with PRINCIPAL BRENNAN: The RAVE/Sounder's video team coordinated a production shoot with Principal Brennan at the mini-pitches at Barge-Lincoln. This captured photos and video that highlighted the Barge story and the impact of the mini-pitches, helping share how this space reflects a broader commitment to access, equity, and joy through play.
The video and photos will be featured at the World Cup Games at Lumen field this summer!

Metal on First Street---STEEL DRUMS RETURN!
Mr. Garcia has brought back the Barge Lincoln's infamous steel drum ensemble after a few years of a hiatus. A handful of 3rd-5th graders have practiced ALL YEAR, after school, to have a concert for families on a Friday night in mid-May.
Next Fall, Mr. Garcia will be taking applications for 3rd-5th graders to participate in this after-school ensemble.
This group is city-famous~~~such an incredible sound!
THANK YOU, MR. GARCIA for your PASSION for BARGE & MUSIC EDUCATION!
Lost and Found!
Parents, please talk to your teacher if you would like to look through the lost and found.
THANK YOU, STUDENT LEADERS for 2025-26!
5th grader student leaders are expected to follow the expectations of giving 100% effort, having minimal absences, a desire to be a role-model for peers, want to interact with the school community, and help with assemblies.
We have selected the top group of students who demonstrate leadership abilities both inside and outside of the classroom with their academics, positive nature, and work ethic. You will see our leaders every morning with monitoring the playground, hallways, and interacting with our school community.
Similarly, every morning, our student leaders complete morning announcements for the school. They get to lead the flag salute, provide friendly reminders of how to follow our three standards of showing respect, making good decisions, and solving problems, along with making sure the student body is aware of upcoming events.
BARGE IS FULL OF BRIGHTNESS---WE LOVE THIS BUILDING!
Blaze Bucks and the School Store!
BLAZE!
Our mascot has Blaze Bucks that our learners can earn by following our three standards:
1. Show respect
2. Make good decisions
3. Solve problems
When our learners follow these standards, they have an opportunity to earn Blaze Bucks that can be accumulated and spent at the classroom or school store. We encourage you to ask your child how many Blaze Bucks he/she has earned and if they've spent any yet.
WE ARE BARGE!
WE ARE THE BEST AROUND.
