Tutoring continues to go strong. Please make sure your student attends each day tutoring occurs. If your student needs to be removed from a morning or afternoon session, please let Mrs. Morrone know. Attendance is key to their success to develop skills taught in each grade level.
At this time, the tutoring registration is closed. The registration form will be sent out again in January. Make sure to keep an eye out in the newsletter to when the registration period begins. If you discussed with your student's teacher about tutoring at parent teacher conferences this is the time to sign up! As a reminder, students are not allowed to stay after school unless they have previously signed up for tutoring. This is to ensure teachers and staff know if your student is in the building.

πWhen Your Fridge Spits Candy π¬
So where are you going to put all your Halloween candy? A guy named Deric Peace emptied the ice out of his freezer and filled it with candy pieces. Now when he pushes a glass against the door, his cup fills up not with ice cubes, but with frozen Reeseβs Pieces! Americans buy 600 million pounds of candy every Halloween, so we might all need to try this.
Wee ones: If Dericβs freezer lets out orange, yellow and brown Reeseβs Pieces, how many colors is that?
Little kids: If instead Deric filled the machine with M&Ms and they have twice as many colors as the 3 Reeseβs colors, how many colors of frozen M&Ms do you get to eat? Bonus: If you eat 2 of each color, how many M&Ms do your teeth get to crunch?
Big kids: Of the 600 million pounds of candy bought every Halloween, 1/3 of that is candy corn (which might work well in the ice dispenser, too). How many pounds of candy corn does the country buy?
Bonus: If each of Americaβs 320 million people puts 1/2 pound of candy corn in the freezer, how many pounds of candy corn are still sitting around at room temperature?
Answers:
Wee ones: 3 colors.
Little kids: 6 colors. Bonus: 12 rock-hard M&Ms.
Big kids: 200 million pounds. Bonus: 40 million pounds, since the 320 million people will freeze 160 million pounds.

Growing Readers
Thank you so much for attending parent-teacher conferences! Your involvement and support play a vital role in your childβs success, and it was a pleasure getting to see all the parents attend. If you couldnβt attend and would still like to have a conversation about your studentβs progress, know itβs never too late to reach out to your childβs teacher. Please call the office and they would be happy to set up a time that works for you-weβre in this together!
Helping Your Child Grow as a Reader
Reading is an important part of learning, and kids need to keep building their skills as they move through school. Here are some simple ways you can support your childβs reading at home:
- Connect reading to everyday life. Find books or articles about your local history or events near your community that your child is interested in.
- Start a fun book club. Help your child invite a family member or friends to read the same book and get together for a discussion or activity.
- Read aloud from harder books. Listening to you read more advanced stories helps your child hear new words and ideas.
We want to thank you for your enthusiasm to support literacy and learning.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Carolyn Matthews Matthecj@pwcs.edu , Jessica Monahan Monahaje@pwcs.edu or Jessica Hesser Hesserj@pwcs.edu.
