Weekly Update

Dear Booker Families,

Welcome back, Bengals! We hope you had a restful Fall Break and are ready to begin the second nine weeks with laser focus and Booker pride! We officially have 28 instructional days before our Middle of Year (MOY) Testing the week of December 8–12. These next few weeks are critical in showing the Texas Education Agency (TEA) that Booker Elementary is a campus on the rise!

🎯 Our Goal: “Turnaround in Action!”

Every day counts. Every lesson matters.
Our staff and scholars are committed to giving 100% effort as we work to move From F to Future Ready.

Here’s what you can expect this quarter:

  • Daily targeted interventions for all students.

  • Morning Mastery Labs, after-school tutoring, and Saturday Success School.

  • Progress monitoring and data checks every week.

  • A renewed focus on attendance, engagement, and effort—because every minute matters.

📚 How Parents Can Help

  • Check your child’s grades and assignments regularly.

  • Communicate with teachers and ask, “What can we work on at home?”

  • Ensure your child attends tutoring, intervention, and Saturday school if assigned.

  • Reinforce the importance of coming to school every day, ready to learn.

💬 Let’s Do This Together

Families, we need your partnership more than ever. Let’s make these next 28 days count by showing our commitment to excellence. Your child deserves a school that reflects their potential—and we are determined to prove that Booker is Better, Booker is Rising, and Booker is Future Ready!

With Bengal Pride,
Mrs. Keisha Womack
Proud Principal, Booker Elementary School

Together, let's rewrite Booker’s story ! Together, let's rewrite Booker’s story !

Mindset of Mastery – No Mediocre Thinking Allowed

As we move through our 28-day countdown to mid-year testing, I want to take a moment to talk about mindset—specifically, the Mindset of Mastery.

💭 Mastery Over Mediocre

At Booker, “good enough” is no longer good enough. Our scholars deserve a learning experience built on excellence, not excuses.

We are challenging every student to aim higher:

  • Not just approaching grade-level expectations, but meeting and mastering them.

  • Not settling for “almost there,” but pushing for “I got it!”

  • Not comparing themselves to others, but striving to beat their own best.

📖 A Mastery Mindset Starts at Home

You can help by reinforcing high expectations every day:

  • Read with your child and ask comprehension questions.

  • Review math facts daily—addition, subtraction, multiplication.

  • Encourage your child to speak in full sentences and explain their thinking.

  • Set boundaries around screen time and make time for meaningful conversations.

Ask your child:

“What did you master today?”
“What skill are you still working on?”

These questions help students think critically and stay goal-oriented.

💪 We Can and We Will

Turning around a campus isn’t just about changing numbers—it’s about changing mindsets.
When students, teachers, and families all believe that mastery is possible for every scholar, the results will follow.

A school year defined by growth, grit, and greatness. A school year defined by growth, grit, and greatness.

MEDICAL ALERT UPDATE! MEDICAL ALERT UPDATE!

In accordance with Senate Bill 12 (SB 12), parents now have the option to opt out of allowing their child to be seen in the school clinic during the school day.

Please note that if you choose to opt out:

  • Your child may only be seen in the clinic for emergency situations.

  • Regular or non-emergency visits to the nurse (such as headaches, stomachaches, minor scrapes, or other routine concerns) will not be allowed.

  • You will be contacted to pick up your child for non-emergency situations.

  • screenings like eyesight, hearing, and scoliosis can not be performed.

We urge you to carefully consider this decision, as opting out significantly limits our ability to support your child’s health needs during the school day.

To ensure your child can receive full care in the clinic, please complete the consent form at the link below: SB 12 Health Consent Form

If you have any questions before making this decision, please contact our school nurse:
Mrs. Hughes, RN
Phone: 281-891-8757

Thank you for your attention to this important matter and for working with us to keep all Razorbacks safe and healthy.

If you have already completed the form, we thank you for your prompt attention.

FRIENDLY REMINDERS FOR PARENTS!

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

Parents, we want to remind you that all birthday celebrations are only 15 minutes long. To avoid long interruptions of instructional minutes, we must limit our celebrations, especially since we have a class size with sometimes 24 students. So, to help us out - we will only be accepting cupcakes and juices for birthday celebrations. No pizzas allowed. All cupcakes must be in sealed container with a label (with label) and juices must be boxed juices only. We would love to have additional treats such as pizza, but sadly we cannot afford to lose the instructional time. Please drop all birthday cupcakes off before noon or send them with your child (if they are a car rider). We want to ensure that teachers are aware of any birhtday goodies to plan their instruction around the celebrations.

Front Office Visits - Parents needing to visit the front office in the mornings and afternoons - Please enter the building through the main entrance for assistance; preferably without your child in the mornings. Children who are car riders should be dropped off first in the car rider line, then parents we ask that you park in the front visitor parking spots or the curb that is NOT THE FIRE LANE.

Door Bell and Valid ID: Proceed to the entrance with your valid ID or passport and ring the doorbell. You must show your valid ID before being buzzed in! Keep your ID out to show your ID for all transactions and requests, upon entering the building. You will be required to go through the metal detectors before proceeding to the window for assistance and proceed to the receptionist window. A valid ID or passport is required for all visitors and for all transactions!

Show respect for all stakeholders; our school, staff, and students! Be kind and respectful in your interactions with our staff members, teachers, and administrators. We want to ensure a positive environment for all and ensure the safety and security for all stakeholders. Please refrain from using profanity, disrespectful or threatening language/behaviors when interacting with our staff. Please be mindful that all clothing must be appropriate and free from inappropriate language/designs or revealing in nature.

Keep your contact information updated! If order for you to stay updated with the latest and most accurate school related information, please make sure you update your email address and phone number if you change them. Also, we need every parent to please sign up for DOJO to receive messages from your classroom teacher!
