Here are some tips to help you and your child navigate this important day.

When you have arrived at the school, enter through the front doors. We will have staff members stationed there to help you find the correct room.

Go straight to your child's homeroom class. You will drop off your child's supplies, confirm transportation, and meet your child's teacher.

Directions on how to sign off on Orientation Agreements complete will be communicated via ParentSquare prior to Open House. Please be on the lookout for that information.

This week we will be highlighting one of our amazing counselors for the 2026/2027 school year!

Hello everyone! My name is Helen Cox and I’m thrilled to continue serving Woodward Mill Elementary School as the 3rd through 5th grade school counselor. My path to counseling began while volunteering as an art teacher for kids experiencing housing insecurity. That experience inspired me to pursue a career focused on supporting young people as they move through challenges, finding joy and meaning along the way. I earned my Master’s degree in School Counseling from Georgia State University in 2019 and have worked in both elementary and middle school settings. After several years living out of state, I’m so happy to be back in Gwinnett County. When I’m not at school, you can find me reading, practicing yoga or meditation, creating art, exploring nature, or spending time in my favorite role—being an auntie! I look forward to partnering with your family and supporting your child throughout the school year.

From June 1 to July 31, Woodward Mill Elementary School is participating in “Find Your Reading Joy” a Summer Reading Challenge presented by Beanstack and Comics Plus. We challenge our students to read at least 600 minutes during the summer and keep track of their reading on our Beanstack site (see directions below)! Students who complete the challenge will win a visit to the Book Mobile at our Summer Reading Celebration in August!

Thousands of other libraries and schools across the nation are joining in too, for a chance at winning prizes for their community. Happy reading, Woodward Mill!
