News from Mrs. Penny & Mrs. Barker
Checking Out Students in the Rogers Front Office
Our front office is happy to assist parents in checking out students early when situations arise that require students to leave campus with a parent or guardian. Please note that unfortunately we are not able to pull students out of class to check them out until the parent is physically on campus and in the front office. We are unable to accommodate calls from parents or guardians driving to campus requesting that students be in the front office and "ready to go," as this creates minutes of lost learning. Thank you for understanding this district-wide procedure and we appreciate your patience. Please reach out to Principal Penny with any questions regarding this procedure.

Help us welcome Madison Jacobs to the Rogers Staff!
Hello,
I am Madison Jacobs, and I am so excited to announce that I am Rogers' newest 2nd grade teacher. I graduated this December with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education with a Reading Speciality from Texas A&M Corpus Christi. I was a student teacher in both 1st and 5th grade for a semester each.
I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher. In kindergarten for ¨What you want to be when you grow up day,¨ I dressed up as a teacher and my former kindergarten teacher has always been so supportive and a role model to me. She made these special blocks for each student and I still have mine to remind me of the impact of a great teacher and my dreams.
I come from a family of educators. I grew up being in schools and it has felt like a second home my whole life. I am eager to have my own class of students to nurture and grow academically.
Loves: My family and friends, Hiking, Thrifting, dogs, and Coffee!
Fun Fact: I have been twenty-three national parks! My favorite is Kenai Fjords.
Valentine Parties - February 14, 2023
Valentine parties will be on the afternoon of February 14th in classrooms. In order to provide an intimate setting for students to exchange Valentines, parties will be for teachers and students only. We encourage parents to join us at the "End of the Year" parties in May.
Please see the following details:
- Students are encouraged to bring Valentines in sets of 24 for classmates. It is most helpful to teachers for distribution if the Valentine says "To: Friend, From: Adam". Teachers will not be sharing a list of student names.
- Students may have an individually packaged treat or snack attached to each Valentine. For example, a sucker or fruit snack pack is welcome. Students are not able to bring other treats such as cupcakes, cookies, donuts, etc. for the class. PTA will be providing the treat for students to enjoy during the party.
- Our wonderful PTA will be providing white paper bags with handles for all students to decorate and use to collect Valentines. Teachers will be providing time for students to decorate and prepare their bags in class.
If you Mrs. Bocian can assist your family or student with securing Valentines, please don't hesitate to reach out to her!

Mystery Reader Program Sign Up
A Mystery Reader program is a guest reader, BUT their identity is kept secret to build anticipation and excitement. Teachers may even choose to give clues before they arrive to get the students extra excited!
FISD Board Policy requires that each volunteer and/or mentor undergo a background check before working with students. You will be prompted to complete the background check during your VOLY account creation process. Keep an eye on your inbox for your background check approval (the process can take up to 3-5 business days). Once approved, you will be able to sign up directly for volunteer opportunities through the VOLY platform. To volunteer at Rogers Elementary, you will need to create a VOLY account by visiting https://friscoisd.voly.org.

Lunch Visitors - SIGN UP REQUIRED
Lunch visitors have begun on campus and we have enjoyed seeing families have a meal with their students!
Please remember that sign ups are required in order to eat lunch on campus with your student. If the sign up for the grade level is full and a parent comes to eat lunch, unfortunately we will not be able to accommodate you that day. The sign up is linked below for quick access!
As a reminder, we ask that parents visit 1-2 times per month to allow all interested visitors the opportunity to eat lunch with their student. You must bring an ID in order to be granted access to the building.
Finally, we ask that you do not park in the fire lane.

NATIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELING WEEK
During National School Counseling Week, I would like to take this opportunity to let you know some of the ways school counselors contribute to students, families, educators, and schools. I absolutely love what I do, and I am honored to be building relationships with the AWESOME students and wonderful families at Rogers.
-I actively engage in helping students examine their abilities, strengths, interests, and talents.
-I focus on positive ways to enhance students’ academic, career, and social/emotional development through one-one-one sessions, small group work, morning meetings, and monthly guidance lessons delivered to each homeroom.
-I work with teachers and administrators to help provide an environment where students can realize their full potential and set healthy, realistic, and optimistic goals for themselves.
-Also, I work in partnership with parents as they encounter the challenges of raising children in today’s world, and I can help parents get connected to Frisco’s community resources.
Please let me know if I am ever needed to support your child or family in any way!

Our wonderful Rogers librarian, Mrs. Noe, is always looking for volunteers to help with reshelving books, helping students find books, and helping with the check in/check out process at the computer stations. Each volunteer shift is a two hour commitment and just requires a brief training on your first visit. Giving your time is such a gift to this wonderful lady, so sign up if you have some time to spare!
