Happy Cold Friday Hawkins,

It was a challenge this week with the frigid temperatures, but we survived. We tried to get the students out whenever possible, but erred on the side of caution at times. I want to thank all of you that came to our Texas Roadhouse event, PTO said it was the biggest one they have had.

I know a lot has been going around about the buses, I wanted to touch base on that with a few things. Please remember that transportation handles all discipline on the buses and has access to the cameras. Contacting transportation should be your first contact when an incident happens. I never mind you adding me into that contact so that I am in the loop. I usually try to work with parents to make sure the issue is being addressed, and if asked by transportation I do sometimes investigate. I also wanted to remind our parents that we have the luxury of many parking lots with plenty of parking spots. While I know it may be convenient and quicker to just pull up on the side of the lot at the end of the day to pick up, it is both not safe, and not fair to those who are doing it correctly. I also know that many of the families doing this are Maltby parents who are picking up from the transfer bus. I want to give warning that I have asked our police department to start monitoring this, and ticketing those incorrectly parking.

Finally as we approach February, a reminder that we do not have school on February 13th and the16th. Please look closely at your child’s class newsletter for information about Valentine’s events. Have a great weekend everyone, stay warm, enjoy family and of course Go Blue!

ELA Update ELA Update

Our district is continuing the process of piloting new ELA (English Language Arts) resources K-5 to ensure we are providing the strongest literacy instruction for our students moving forward. During this time, some classrooms may be using different instructional programs or materials. This is a normal and crucial part of the pilot process and will not disrupt student learning. Our teachers play an important role in this work and have strong ownership in the process, using their professional expertise to select and implement strategies that best meet the needs of their students. All instruction remains aligned to grade-level standards and focused on building strong reading and writing skills. Thank you for your continued support as we work to strengthen literacy instruction for all students!

Dine to Donate Dine to Donate

PTO is thrilled to share that Hawkins raised $460 during our Dine to Donate event at Texas Roadhouse on Monday. Their marketing representative said he has "personally never seen anyone bring in that much!" We should be so proud! Thank you so much for all your help ahead of this event!

Virtual Tutoring Opportunity Grades 2 - 8: Reading or Math Virtual Tutoring Opportunity Grades 2 - 8: Reading or Math

For the past few years, Brighton Area Schools have offered invite only Virtual Tutoring for students who may need additional support in reading or math (based on assessment data). This winter, we have a limited number of seats available for additional students in grades 2 - 8 to take advantage of this program.

This 10-week structured program will provide high-dosage one-on-one online tutoring with a live teacher (provided by our partner, Littera) two times per week for 30 minutes utilizing high quality online content. The Virtual Tutoring runs from February 17 through May 1. When registering, families will be able to pick the days and times that work best for them.

This is a virtual program; therefore, students will meet with their live teacher online for only 30 minutes a day, two times per week. Based on the online nature of the program, students can connect from wherever they have internet access.

Complete: Winter Virtual Tutoring Interest Form to express interest in participating in this program. Please complete the form for your student as soon as possible and on or before Friday, January 30, 2026 to express your interest in this opportunity. Space is limited.

Please click on: Informational flyer for details or Littera for additional information about our tutoring services provider.

Please make sure your child has an extra set of clothes in their backpack. Accidents happen while your child is at school (bathroom accidents, playground mishaps, lunchroom spills, ripped or torn clothes, etc.) and we do not have extra clothes to lend out. Having an extra set here at school saves parents from having to make a trip to Hawkins during the day. We appreciate your help!
