Elementary Highlights Elementary Highlights

From the Principal: From the Principal:

Partnering with families is at the heart of everything we do! To help keep everyone on the same page, we’d like to share how we categorize student behaviors using our SWIS (School-Wide Information System) framework. Our team has worked with Dr. Hoyt over the past year to categorize behaviors into a thoughtful, structured matrix defined as either

Staff-Managed (handled directly by staff with immediate support and reminders) or

Administrative-Managed (requiring additional support from school leadership). You can check out the full definitions in the linked documents. This matrix is a reference to help all staff stay linked when managing behavior.

When it comes to discipline, our goal is always growth rather than punishment. Research shows that behavior is a way of communicating. Through progressive discipline, any punitive consequence is thoughtfully paired with reteaching, open discussions about how to do better next time, and restorative practices that help students reflect on their actions and mend relationships. Ultimately, we want every student to feel accountable, loved, and fully supported. After all, here at our school, we truly believe that mistakes are how we learn and every day is a new day. Thank you for partnering with us in guiding and supporting our kids!

Focus on Character: Respect

Throughout the month of October, our elementary students focused on the character trait of Respect. Across all grade levels, students explored what it means to honor themselves, others, and their surroundings through thoughtful words and actions.

We encourage you to reinforce these lessons at home by reminding students to demonstrate respect to everyone and in every area of the school day:

  • In the Classroom & Hallways: Listening attentively when teachers and peers speak, taking turns, raising hands, and moving quietly through the halls to respect other learning spaces.

  • In the Cafeteria & Playground: Showing fairness, including everyone in games, cleaning up after themselves, and using kind language with peers, cafeteria staff, and monitors.

  • On the Bus: Following safety rules, staying seated, and speaking respectfully to the bus driver and fellow passengers.

Thank you for partnering with us to help our students practice respect to all people in all places, every day!

Weekly Spotlight: Weekly Spotlight:

Our first graders have been working hard in the classroom! They've been putting their critical thinking skills to the test by decoding secret patterns created by their classmates. They are also utilizing every minute to practice what they’ve learned by singing a silly song during dismissal that helps practice key phonics skills.

REARDAN WEEKLY | SCREAMING EAGLE NEWS

We have had another great week of learning at Reardan Middle & High School! With the end of the first quarter behind us, we are excited to celebrate student learning, classroom activities, and a little fall fun!

First Quarter Wrap-Up & Attendance Reminder

The first quarter has officially ended! First-quarter grades will be posted on Wednesday, November 4th, and report cards will be mailed home to families.

As we move into the second quarter, we want to remind families that attendance matters! We see a direct correlation between student attendance and academic success. Students who are consistently at school have more opportunities to engage in learning, participate in classroom activities, and build the skills they need to be successful. Thank you for partnering with us to make regular attendance a priority!

Learning & Fall Fun!

Today, our classrooms enjoyed some fall fun while continuing to make learning a priority!

WE RECEIVED OUR CEDAR LOG!

This huge old growth cedar log arrived yesterday. It is absolutely beautiful, and will be utilized by students to carve a dugout canoe. This project will take a couple of years as students work on it periodically. We were able to purchase the log with the assistance of a grant from Frontier Behavioral Health. We'll definitely update you with pictures this spring.

It's been a busy and exciting week in our kitchen! We officially kicked off our new salad bar, giving students even more fresh, colorful options to choose from. We're excited to continue adding variety and encouraging students to try new foods.

We also hosted our first Farm to School event of the school year, featuring locally grown red potatoes from the Spokane Hutterian Brethren. Students had the opportunity to meet David, learn a little about where their food comes from, and even take home some fun potato-themed goodies! It was a great way to bring local agriculture into our school and connect students with the people who help grow their food.

Security Update Security Update

As we head into Halloween weekend, please take a few minutes to talk with your kids about making safe choices.

A few important reminders:

  • Younger trick-or-treaters: Stay with a trusted adult, use sidewalks and crosswalks, carry a flashlight or wear reflective clothing, and be aware of traffic.

  • Older students: Make good decisions when going out with friends. Never get into a vehicle with someone who has been drinking or is otherwise impaired. If you need a safe ride, call a parent or trusted adult.

  • Parents: Take a moment to remind your kids that their safety always comes first and that it's okay to speak up or ask for help.

Let's all do our part to look out for one another and make sure everyone has a fun and safe Halloween weekend!
