Student Self-Dismissal- A New DCPS Policy

Beginning on January 3, 2023, all students in grades Kindergarten through 5 must have a signed permission form on file in order to walk or take public transportation home alone or with a sibling. No student will be allowed to leave school alone or with a sibling until the attached form has been signed and returned to the main office or emailed to hyde.addison@k12.dc.gov. Please note that PreK3 and PreK4 students are not eligible.

Before returning this form, please:

  • ·Be sure that your child knows their address, your phone number, and where to go or who to contact if there is an emergency.
  • ·Discuss safe walking behaviors with your child, including crossing streets safely at intersections with crossing guards, marked crosswalks, or other safe locations. (For more pedestrian safety tips please visit https://www.safekids.org/walkingsafelytips or https://www.nhtsa.gov/back-school-safety.)

Please also keep in mind that the Hyde-Addison playground is NOT available for student use after school dismissal because it is reserved for the Champions afterschool program.

The PTA has been fundraising for the school nonstop all year and we want to thank you all for participating over and over again!! Thank you!

At the Student Success Showcase earlier this week we raised $3,932 of our 30-day goal to match the $10,000 Standing Ovation award for “building bridges” to students who might not otherwise have such great learning opportunities.
