Dear Families,

I trust this finds you well and not too stressed during this busy time of the year. Our first trimester has come to a close and report cards will be available online tomorrow via your Aspen account. As a reminder, our report cards are based on the standards students are working toward mastering. The report will likely look different that the kind of report card you received as a student. Our Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, Julia Ferreira, has provided a bit more information on Standards Based grading to help with your understanding. CLICK HERE for more from the Marblehead Public Schools on Standards Based Report Cards.

We urge all parents to take the time to access your children's report cards online tomorrow after 3PM. The report card is not only important for helping you understand your child's academic, social and emotional growth and development, but I also believe it shows our teachers that we all respect and appreciate the enormous amount of time they spend reviewing data, assessments, work samples and overall growth and development for each child's report card.

With one trimester of the year in the books, we are looking forward to working with families to help all children succeed. We thank you for being our partners so we can do just that!

My best to all,

Mary

As the season approaches with more indoor activities and holiday social interaction, hence come the usual illnesses. We are seeing a slight uptick in student's feeling unwell at school. If you are managing illnesses in your household, please be sure to consult our guidelines when deciding whether your child is ready to return to school.

· Fever-Students should be fever free without the use of fever-reducing medication (Tylenol and/or Motrin) for 24 hours prior to returning to school.

· Vomiting and Diarrhea- Students should be kept home for 24 hours after the last episode of gastrointestinal distress.

· Strep Throat- Students being treated for strep throat must be kept home a minimum of 24 hours after treatment begins.

· Bacterial Conjunctivitis/Pink Eye- Students may return to school after 3 doses of antibiotic treatment.

· Orthopedic Injuries - students returning with a cast/boot and/or crutches and/or brace/wrap and who require accommodations/restrictions, i.e. no gym, no recess, elevator use, should have a physician's note specifying what accommodations/restrictions are needed and to what date.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Karen Doherty RN, Brown School Nurse (781) 639-3112 ext 60138 or email: doherty.karen@marbleheadschools.org

Thank you for doing all you can to help us manage wellness in a building with 500+ people each day.

Cole, Hunter M, Alyna Stella, Lianna, AJ, JJ, Harvey, Juliana and Haddie!

The Leadership Council is a group of 10 third graders with 2 students representing each of the 5 third grade classrooms. The group assumes the responsibility of planning and facilitating our school wide Community Meetings, supporting our school values, addressing ways to make Brown School better, and being a liaison to the school counselors and principals to ensure regular student voice and feedback. We are grateful for their leadership!

Thank you Brown School Community!

Prior to the Thanksgiving Break, the Brown School Community collected items for the Marblehead Food Pantry. We are sincerely grateful to all for your generosity and for teaching our children how to take care of one another. Special thanks to our teachers and staff for their donations, and to Ms. Beth Johnson and her class for coordinating this effort at our school. We'd also like to thank volunteers Linda and Mark Mills for transporting the the goods to the Pantry! Go Team Marblehead!!
