Mrs. Simmons
Mrs. Simmons is a staple at Westcreek. She's the campus on-line learning teacher. As a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, she knows the importance of excellent representation as well as college and career readiness. You may see her in the halls ushering students to class, conferencing with students on their Edgenuity or Bright Thinkers progress, or building relationships with students and colleagues over lunch. Mrs. Simmons is one of the first teachers on campus and one of the last teachers to leave. Through her mentorship, Westcreek has the #1 on-line learning program in the district. Mrs. Simmons, from our Westcreek community, we salute you. Thank you for all you do.
Westcreek Graduates
Congrats to all the graduates that have completed your time at Westcreek. You have fought a good fight, finished your course, and kept the faith. As you enter into this new season while waiting to cross the stage in an official ceremony, continue to analyze who you are and the contributions you will make in the world. You were born to be great, so let your light shine.

Did you know this was created by a Black Inventor???
George Crum (1824-1914)- Potato Chips
Crum, a chef and restaurateur, is said to have unintentionally created the potato chip during the summer of 1853. They were made in response to a customer who sent back their fried potatoes after complaining they were too thick. The crisps were an instant hit, and though Crum never patented the creations, chips are arguably now one of the world’s favorite snacks.
Thank you, Mr. Crum for your contribution to the food industry. Hot cheetos would not be a trend if it wasn't for you.
Mary Beatrice Davidson Kenner (1912-2006)- Feminine Sanitary product
Though she filed a total of five patents, Mary Beatrice Davidson Kenner is thought to be one of the most “forgotten” Black inventors, despite her contributions to society. She patented the sanitary belt in 1957, which was adjustable and had a moisture-proof napkin pocket in a time where women were still using cloth pads for their periods. She also created a serving tray that could be attached to a walking frame, a toilet tissue holder, and back washer that could be mounted on the wall of the shower.
Thank you, Mrs. Kenner, for thinking of all women and their sanitary needs.
Shirley Jackson (born 1946)- Living legend of caller ID's and more
Jackson, the first African American woman to earn a doctorate at MIT, is responsible for monumental telecommunications research that led to the invention of products such as the touch-tone phone, portable fax, fiber optic cables, and caller ID. In 2014, President Barack Obama named her the co-chair of the President’s Intelligence Advisory.
Thank you, Mrs. Jackson for your contribution into screening calls on our technology!!
